Could the 152 lb catch wait work in Canelo's favor?

Those belts are essentially meaningless other than identifying who is in contention within the division.

Canelo could have retained his belts as I am sure Floyd will dump most if not all of them right after. Problem is that Canelo is the one who really wanted this fight, so the onus is on him to make the concessions. Fact of the matter is that whoever wins this fight will be 'crowned' the best 154 fighter there is. Caveat is, if it's Floyd, then Lara or someone else will be the potential best and Floyd will be ducking him. :patsch

Not sure if you are new to boxing or sports in general, but we have this little phenomenon known as 'over training'. During such a state, an athlete can cut weight by working out, but the body is in a significant breakdown state and the athlete doesn't perform nearly as well as he could if he trained properly.

There are a bunch of things wrong with the opening post. However, the catchweight could end up helping Canelo. It could result in Canelo being in better shape for this fight, and this better prepared. In my opinion, I don't think it will have much effect on him physically. Mentally though, it could play a role.

so canelito was not in shape for his other fights and that's the reason the appears to gas out and fight in spurts?

but this fight is different and hes going to be in shape for this fight throwing 1000 punches?

    oh.

    okay.

canelito is not going to throw 700 punches in this fight.

ill be impressed if he can throw 500.

I was just browsing the forum when I came across this and I actually had to sign in just to tell you how much it's made my head hurt.

Canelo is a big dude on fight night and it's certainly plausible that Floyd put the catchweight stipulation in there to make things a bit more difficult. I know that if I signed to fight and my opponent could potentially outweigh me by 20-30lbs, I'd be looking to try and even things up a bit as far as that goes.

As for the titles, the WBA are already in on a slice of the $$$ through Floyd's belt. Assuming there isn't a draw, the winner would then be walking out with both WBA super/regular belts and would drop the regular anyway. This way the WBA gets to have their greedy fingers in both pies.

I get what you're saying, and thought the same thing. It all depends on whether Canelo has stamina issues from cutting weight or stamina issues from not training enough. Floyd is betting on the former. If it's the latter, it could blow up in his face.
