Any merit to all of this being an elaborate sham?

the fact he got back to number 1 in the rankings after just a win over rosy was a joke... all the 4 belt organizatioons got there flaws.. but the WBC is the worse of the 4 lol.

I dont take boxing conspiracy theories like this seriously. The establishment isnt stupid, and they have way too much to lose by fixing fights in such an obvious and overt manner, for me to believe they would make such a move. And while Im sure a few fighters would... I rebuke the idea that most championship level fighters are willing to take dives.

Its been a long time since Ive seen such an effort from much of the boxing fan community to discredit a victory as some of the nonsense Ive seen posted regarding this fight. Ortiz went from division boogieman to, if Wilder wins, its a fixed fight, or Ortiz was too old, or Ortiz isnt that good anyways, ect ect. Sad stuff from the boxing community.

Thats fair. I cant fault someone for not rating Ortiz all that highly (I myself rate him fairly decent)

Also just to be clear, my post wasnt directed at you specifically, as much as it was a general comment on the state of much of the communities perception of a potential wilder victory.

Yes, fair point, it seems that Ortiz's fans on here (who were saying he was actually the best in the division) have magically disappeared.

I've always said that Ortiz is a few years older than stated though, even before this fight was announced. I stick to that - but it won't stop me giving Wilder credit should he win (as I expect him to).

Charles Farrell doesn't seem to know a lot about boxing.

First, he's a very poor judge of talent. He tried to manage a couple fighters, like Leon Spinks and Mitch Green, when they were well past their best, because he apparently didn't know much about them other than he'd heard of them. Everyone following the sport knew of their histories of radical behavior.

As he admitted, he nearly got Spinks killed when he matched him legitimately. Since he discovered he wasn't good at matchmaking, he just decided to try to fix fights himself.

He wrote about his attempts to try to do that in another Deadspin article.
    https://deadspin.com/why-i-fixed-fights-1535114232

Now, apparently, he thinks everybody fixes fights, because according to him that's the only way you can make money in boxing.

In 2015, he was convinced that Wlad Klitschko was going to fight Shannon Briggs and it would be a FIXED fight.

Wlad needed a big knockout, so Briggs was going to take a dive for him.

And he was convinced Deontay Wilder was terrible, so Bermane Stiverne would take a dive against Wilder to set up KLITSCHKO-WILDER, where Al Haymon would cash out on Wilder by serving him up to Klitschko to be destroyed.

    https://deadspin.com/why-tonights-heavyweight-title-fight-shouldnt-be-on-the-1680135638

The fact that NONE of it happened - Wlad didn't fight Briggs, Briggs didn't take a dive against Wlad, Stiverne didn't take a dive against Wilder, Klitschko and Wilder didn't fight, and Haymon didn't cash out on Wilder -- is forgotten.

NOW, he's convinced Haymon wants to cash out Wilder against Joshua. He's just taken his failed conspiracy from years ago and replaced Stiverne with Ortiz and Wlad with Joshua.

Therefore, according to that writer, Ortiz will now take a dive setting up Joshua-Wilder NEXT.

(Forgetting the fact that Joshua is fighting Parker next and should Joshua win will have THREE mandatories to deal with.)

Regardless, Farrell is convinced Wilder is so bad that Ortiz will MUST take a dive in the first three rounds tonight so Haymon can cash him out with Joshua.

Apparently, all these conspiracy theories are based on his belief that Wilder is awful and you can only make money in boxing by fixing fights.

    But Wilder isn't a 40-year-old Leon Spinks.

He's just a poor judge of talent who, if he was still in boxing, would be one of the people causing real damage to it (by fixing contests).

I'll be honest, I don't believe you Butt.

You're telling me this guy in this article presents the same exact argument plenty of these numbnuts have been crying about for a nice long time but in prettier words and that's all that's needed to sway you?

I read that whole damn thing and it's just the same tired, and lazy minded, babble that essentially comes down to not believing in the trials and tribulations of a man from dixie trying to be successful on an international stage. If all it takes to be right is a creative writing class then the **** did I go to medical school for? Shits? When it's serious, when it's your left arm, then your ass wants fact not pretty spin right?

So, what I got out of this id you're not taking the Wilder-Ortiz argument seriously or don't see anyway to have a serious conversation, and have settled for poking the bear. Which is fine, I got no beef, but I don't honestly believe you believe this fight might be fixed or that there is a conspiracy centered around a brown skinned man from dixie that works for his benefit.

What would make the most money, since Haymon has signed both Wilder and Ortiz, would be for this to be a classic war that would warrant a second and third fight, the next two on PPV.

So Wilder and Ortiz can become PPV stars on their own and they wouldn't be beholden to Eddie Hearn.

I don't think Ortiz won't try or will throw himself on the canvas.

But If this goes to the cards then Ortiz will never get a decision, never never never, Ortiz could dominate from start to finish and will not get a decision.
