No (there is an excellent subbed documentary of Gomez on YouTube though) No I don't think so (maybe very basically) Yes (Mancini post fight interview. AA lived in America for quite a time) I don't think so (again, if he did, very basic) No (very intelligent man however) Very basic (basically no)
Yes, Benitez spoke broken Rican English. There's plenty of post-fight interviews of him speaking English. I'm sure if Monzon spoke English, he would have said "I hope you can fly, b*tch!"
Arguello and Benitez, yes. Jofre learned some basics and was quoted speaking in English on a couple of his US fights. He also spoke fluent Spanish (his dad was Argentine). His daughter told me that he actually did speak and understand a bit of English. Olivares, Gomez, Chavez nothing. Monzon, I’m not sure.
Arguello lived here for at least a decade (he couldnt even visit Nicaragua) and had split residence for 20. His son has lived in NYC forever.
