It's just that it does not add up. Supposedly Gamboa has not agreed to the terms, does not show up the the press conference yet Top Rank is in no alarm and keeps the date as it was for April 14. They change no date or mention a replacement. They don't release any negative words in regard in Gamboa or on the situation as a whole. They seem confident the fight is happening although everything indicates the opposite. Could it be that this was planned? To build hype? I dont know, just a thought.
This could either be that #1 Gamboa did it on purpose to make the fight even more desirable or #2 that Gamboa is really having issues with his contract with TR. For anyone here thinking that Gamboa is backing out of the fight because he is scared is pure non sense. These Cubanitos are used to fighting against bigger and tougher kids since their childhood, so fighting a guy taller is no big deal. I am sure that many Rios' fans are thinking that he backed out cause he is not " macho " enough but that's pure stupidity. I really hope that the fight does materialize and we get to see Gamboa beating Rios in a spectacular way. Only time will tell ... :good
No way is this a Top Rank promo stunt. The fight had sold 4,800 tickets in a few days. This has to have put the breaks on ticket sales. Gamboa has Floyd or someone whispering in his ear. Whispering tried and true Floyd terms like "slave wage" contracts. The problem for Gamboa is that he is stuck. He fully admits that he is under contract. And he recently just re-upped with Top Rank for 2 more years. So, he is hoping that by pulling this little stunt they will throw him some extra money. This is like Mayorga going to Oscar at the weigh in asking for extra money. Sad but true.
