Tommy fought at cruiserweight towards the end of his career. I can't really rate the guys he fought . i would like to ask more knowledgeable posters here about tommys level of opposition he faced at cruiserweight. Was it high opposition or towards the end ? I know he did stop a few cruisers . just curious though if he would be competitive in todays cruiserweight division

    Including with usyk involved ?

I agree 100%. If I remember correctly he would weigh in around the lower 180's for his CW fights. I know a couple of MMA guys at my gym that fight at 205 and they typically rehydrate to around 220 after 24hrs.

Though his skill level would be miles better than any cruiser today. Hearns was at the end of the road when
he fought at Cruiser and his legs were completely gone. Factor in as was noted the average CW today comes in around
215 on fight night. Any top 5-10 Cruiser should be able to handle Hearns decisively. But that's not saying much at all.

When he was a cruiserweight you are right. His legs were gone and he didn't use them much. He either relied on his punch to get him through or he would struggle and win with just his still fast enough hands. But he never could do well against a young up and coming fighter when he was 40.. His power and experience at that point were still there, and I noticed against Nate Miller he had a lot of experience and you could tell he relied on that to go into autopilot. But that would not be enough against a young fast fighter. It would have been getting a good win with his punch or getting pummeled by a young fighter.

We are in one of the strongest cruiserweight eras that we have ever seen right now!

I normally object to people treating a cruiserweight win, as a heavyweight win in a pre cruiserweight era, but right now I would be prepared to run with the idea!

I would have to say Briedis at the moment.

He is the heir apparent on paper.

I agree, I think he beats Dorticos, although truth be told I'm rooting against him.

You catch the Glowacki fight? Thoughts?

Without doubt, Tommy would win a title. Cruiserweights have no skills nowadays

I am a huge Hearns fan, and the 10lbs extra weight, new ways of weighing in, and as mentioned, the quality the division has now would not make it any easier.

But for what is worth the one time I saw him fight live was as a very old 40 year old, and yet despite being clearly physically damaged he schooled Nate Miller, who although no world beater shared a couple of fights with Norris and was a lot more competitive in defeats to Tiozzo and Cole than he was against the aging Motor City Cobra.

That is far from enough to suggest he could beat today's best, but it is a little bit to suggest if he were seven or so years younger, he might have given them an argument...
