How much of a factor was Age? Or did Tunney just have the style that would give Dempsey major problems?

I think Dempsey's age ,lifestyle, and inactivity were all factors and i would pick him over Tunney in his prime years...

Tunney fought a tamed version. Dempsey declined rapidly in the preceding three years -he more or less had too much calimari with Hollywood types. Dempsey was a man who's "ghetto rage" was his propulsion -a hungry Dempsey, a 1919 Dempsey, was extremely dangerous. Ha, he had that eye of the tiger. We forget how dangerous he was because we tend to average him out over his championship reign and that skews the reality of what he was.

    1919 Dempsey would stop him.

Hmmm I'm not sure about this one, Dempsey was able to tag Tunney and put him down when far from his best, a 1919 Jack could get to Tunney more times than the 1927 version.

That said, Tunney had studied Dempsey like no other opponent and executed a perfect gameplan for the most part in both bouts.

Could Dempsey beat Tunney on points? would a KO be his only route to victory?

Could Tunney handle a prime Dempsey??? could he take the unrelenting pressure??

I'll have to think about his one

It would be a rash man who said it could never happen.

My inclination however is that Dempsey would catch up to Tunney sooner than he did in the battle of the long count and finish what he started.

I think Tunney won every round of the first and all but the Long Count one of the second, I could be wrong though
