An odd one; A fighter from the past versus one from the future.

Do you think Tyson Fury can get in shape to beat Jack Dempsey?
Or will the layoff had taken too much from him?

    You really think so? Why?
Beat Wlad, he's huge and can move.
    Pretty good puncher.

    He's an awesome fighter imo

You have to have more than just being tough.

Demspey didn’t apply pressure or cut the ring off well against movers and lunged forward when his opponents werent stationary. He would have to be a sort of counter puncher but he wasnt and he reset to set up knockouts going back. He did not apply non stop pressure and that would hinder his chances here bc he would have to make up that long range..

The tunney and Gibson fights show he doesnt work well with movers..He was limited with footwork IQ because of the lack of ring cutting. Not closing distance also doesnt let him get at his opponet if they miss..Dempsey had good head movement but always too often looked for that one punch k.o with little set ups. He was often not a sharp puncher throwing wide shot/arm punches. Fighters who could be strong enough to force Dempsey ina real fight and hold steady could force him into a brawl leading to counter shots of certain fury would take advantage of,and speed is not really the issue bc fury himself has enough combined with distance.

Does Dempsey win ? well you have to look at realistics here...does fury actually have to come in tip top shape at 6'9 LONG reach a counter puncher/mover as i just described? I dont think he does hes MUCH more than an old Willard and hits harder.

Fury tags him up all day long as long as basically he wants. Dempsey might land a clean shot but dont bet on it.

I do not think that Fury will be able to get his best for back after this layoff.

That is maddening, because whatever happens now, he is going to remain a bit of a mystery.

Fury is looking like Orson Wells....the old Orson Wells, not the slick Citizen Kane model.

Amateur level skills. I spent 12 rounds watching him fight(?) Wlad alternating between laughing and shaking my head in dispair at how far the hwt division had fallen in the crapper.

I've watched a good amount of Tyson Fury and I just can't see him doing anything significant to Dempsey. Even after the lay off Dempsey was still dangerous, just look at how Tunney reacts when Dempsey starts an attack. He knew all it took was one good shot and he would be out.

Dempsey never had a problem with movers. Gibbons straight up ran from him and that is about the only fight where a prime Dempsey faces a mover on film. Dempsey was sick and past prime AND was coming off of a lay off. Seems Dempsey is the only fighter that doesn't get some slack for coming out of a lay off.

That being said since we are discussing Dempsey from the lay off I say he beats Fury by knockout late, probably 8th or 9th round. Fury won't clinch to smother Dempsey's attack, he won't out punch Dempsey and he won't out work Dempsey. Fury is simply too slow and too big to beat Dempsey. If Fury was 6' 180-190 then he could probably win but I doubt it at the abnormal height of 6'9 250 lbs. Fury doesn't compare to the ring technician that Tunney was. Fury probably hits harder than Tunney but that's absolutely it.

Dempsey's defense will look better than normal in this match up. I expect most people will pick Fury because they read he beat Wlad by out boxing him and while that is true they automatically think that he has fantastic mobility, jab, and speed.
