Best british heavyweight EVER I meant, messed up the title.

    If he -

    1) Beats Joshua twice
    2) Beats the likes of Usyk to get the WBO after
    3) 10 title defences, including some top opponents.

I think doing that + being as good as he obviously is would make him a decent shout for the best british heavyweight ever.

    ---------

    So

    1) What does have to do to be considered the best British Heavyweight
    2) What would have to do to be considered the best ever?

What´s the significance of title defenses? Opposition is what matters.
If he keeps beating the top ranked guys then sure, his title defense count would be a nice boost for his legacy.
Wilder had 10 defenses. He will not go down as a a great champion for it. Not even as one of the best American champions. Because of the weak opposition he faced.
He did fight Ortiz and Fury twice, but the only other guy he fought who was in the top 10, was Stiverne. One of the weakest heavyweight champs in modern boxing.

But yes, Fury has the opportunity to go down as the best British Heavyweight champion. Hell, he might retire as the best Brit ever. If he can beat Joshua, Usyk and other good opponents.

If he beats AJ and 3 other legit "top 5" prime heavyweights convincingly over the next 2 or 3 years, and doesn't lose, he's clearly #1.

Personally, I don't think he'll have the longevity with the quality over time to overhaul Lewis. It's worth remembering that Lewis has his own generational wins - past-prime Holyfield and Vitali. There's a lot to overhaul there. That said, there will be arguments if some of the predictions/conditions in this thread are fulfilled.

It’s possible but as noted above I don’t think he’ll have a career length that allows for it to happen

He wont have the career span to surpass him tbh, nor the quality of opposition

If he starts fighting frequently and top tier fighters than he could surpass Lewis. However, he rarely even fights and he is not that young.

    Lennox sets a high bar.

I am a huge Fury fan, but I'll not forget all the good years with the Pugilist Specialst, Lennox the Lion Claudius Lewis.

Nobody here is accounting for Fury's MMA career 4 years from now.

    Quick answer to the OP.

He's close to it now. Of course LL set a high standard.

It will be a tough order to surpass Lennox Lewis.
It could be done, but not likely given Fury's age and that he isn't a normally particularity active fighter. He'd have to ramp up his schedule or fight well into his 40's.

Lewis fights were usually entertaining. So fury will never be better.

Tyson Fury could win 50 -0 & some people will still show the video of him uppercutting himself.
He is the best right now.
Lennox Lewis was the best of his era despite two blips that he recovered by rematch wins.
And yet some people claim Vitali won or was over the hill despite being 6 years younger.
BTW, Lewis beat Vitali and would have KO'd Wladimir.
