Could Welterweight Duran (Montreal) Give Robinson His Toughest Ft?

I think Robinson was better than Leonard.

 

Which certainly doesn't necessarily make Duran a tougher challenge (than SRL) for said SRR. The vast majority wouldn't favor either of them.

 

I think Robinson was better than most, probably everyone, but if you’re picking a welterweight to go in and try to beat him who are you going to pick that you think has a better chance than Hearns or Leonard?

 

SRR was better poised to hurt Duran than SRL in Montreal.

I have often said that a raging SRR was like a hybrid of SRL and Hearns. He was a more concussive puncher than SRL and carried Hearns' right hand prowess with better stamina, bouncebackability and durability. More importantly, SRR's body work and ability to whip punches around defensive hand positioning, through guards and uppercut, hookercut and hook to body and head mid combination effortlessly between hands stands him in good stead to emphasise his height and reach advantages.

That Duran was a special, special fighter, but I believe that SRR adapts better than SRL did to Duran's footspeed; that he circles, establishes his jab and explodes in Hearns like fashion with the right hand disguised behind a few jab and hook combos, feints and traps.

I wouldn't venture Duran getting knocked out as that Hearns thing was a rarity, but if Tommy could do it, I wouldn't put it past SRR to do it.

 

Duran would throw more shots than Leonard would and land on the inside more.

 

Hearns would have a better chance because of that long jab and powerful right hand.

 

He was a master at everything.

 

Mayweather would probably do better than Duran. Duran's loses mostly came to boxer movers.

 

Duran was an exceptional fighter but I don't see him beating a prime Ray Robinson at Ray's best weight .. in addition , Robinson was a huge two handed puncher. Duran of Montreal gives Robinson a terrific fight till he doesn't .. that's how I see it ..

 

Duran would throw and land more than Floyd.

 

Leonard had faster hands and was better on the outside.
