Could/Would Hearns Do To Basilio What He Did To Duran?

Tommy Hearns massacred Roberto Duran, flooring him twice in the 1st rd ,once from a right hand, once from a left hook, sending him to the wrong corner at the rounds end . Tommy almost decapitated him in the 2nd rd with his right cross.
Up to this point Duran had been in 81 fights and been floored only twice, both times by DeJesus,in the less than 2 rds he was in there with the Hit Man he was down 3 times, the 3rd time for the count.
Could Hearns do the same to the ruggedly durable Carmen Basilio who was known for his good set of whiskers?

Hearns v Duran was at super welter which I think would suit both Carmen and Tommy.Does Tommy replicate that ass whupping on Basilio or does Carmen survive it and perhaps get into the fight and start dishing out his own punishment? What say you?

Yes he certainly could but I wouldn't count on it. I think Basilio would have a better plan and get inside and make a fight out of it. Duran stood straight up in front of Hearns and he allowed Tommy to back him up right away.
I think the best version of Basilio would fight with more of a purpose. I'm not saying Carmen wins but I believe he avoids getting trucked like that. Hearns still has significant advantages.

I see Hearns getting a decision, maybe dropping Basilio on route. But at times maybe an uncomfortable fight for Hearns. Certainly not a one way thing for Tommy but the decision never in doubt.

Hearns is too big for Basilio,

I mean little guys can beat big guys, of course they can, but at Top Level when the size is too much, it usually goes to the Big Man. Tommy too big, strong and skilled for Basilio to gain an edge. Great as Carmen is.

Basilio was 34 years old having his last fight when he faced Pender ,who was ,like Fullmer a full fledged natural middle.

Basilio wasn't coming up from 135 pounds like Duran, I'd favor Hearns to beat him ,late TKO sometime after 8 rounds.

I think Tommy might stop Carmen via tko because of cuts.

You know a 147 I just might take Carmen to come from behind after taking a battering to stop a fading Hearns. Tommy I believe was so much better at 154.

I remember reading of a "dream matchup" between Hearns and Basilio in 1984 with Hearns stopping Basilio after the middle rounds.

and though my opinion of Carmen is not very high; he certainly never beat Robinson, but he did go 30 rounds with a real threshing machine that did not tire, unlike Hearns.

and with a closed eye yet!

    I think this is amazing.

He not only had stamina but staying power. Who could be tougher?

Physically, I dont think he can compete but he's going the distance. The fight wont be decided on cuts.

You might be right. Tommy early but Basilio late. This could be like the Harold Weston fight but w/o the unfortunate ending

    You noticed that too?

That's what I had been saying. Tommy was built better, faster, and stronger at 154.

Tommy's real downfall came because of all the moving up in weight, then coming back down.

I seen it happen to Roberto Duran in the Leonard rematch; he couldn't fend off Ray Leonard anymore

Then it happened with Eddie Mustafa Muhammud in 1981 as he moved up for a heavyweight fight with one of the contenders. After losing the decision, he dropped back down to 175 make a mandatory against Michael Spinks. Eddie swept the first half of the fight but then went dry, and stopped fighting altogether.

and that is what happened to Roy Jones. He dropped in weight from heavy to lt heavy, won in 12 but took a beating which seemingly took the life out of him

Robinson was 36 and 37, going on 38 for the Basilio fights which were at middleweight.

Yes, but Robinson was quite capable, and a real danger offensively. He was a threshing machine that never stopped
