He's definitely a Hall of Famer and on the cusp of ATG status. Obviously, beating Mayweather would have done it. He has consistently faced tough competition and will be beloved by fans as a true warrior when he hangs up the gloves. I think if he beats Trout then unifies against Canelo, he will enter the ATG fray. Of course the success of those two fighters as the progress through their careers can have an effect on that. I have a pretty high bar for ATG, though. Cotto's win over a still game Mosley is much better than any win many guys consider ATG's (Joe Cal, Wlad) had and his giving the two greatest fighters of his generation two of their toughest tests shows an ambition that many supposed ATG's lack.
I consider him a HOF and borderline great. I'd not think much about any sort of top 100 all-time anything. Too unlikely.
Calzaghe IS NOT an ATG tbh.. and Wlad is an eventual ATG. as in eventually people will except him as an ATG only because he literally beat everyone worth mentioning in his division... but it may take years after he retires almost like Lewis took some time to earn almost everyone's respect..... Calzaghe, though undefeated, literally hasn't faced the best competition, and his second best win is Kessler.... his best is Hopkins... but the rest of his resume isn't really ATG spectacular... Roy Jones resume.. isn't really spectacular either.. but he beat James Toney, Tarver, Hopkins, and won titles in four weight classes... including heavyweight.. so for the Calzag sack riders.... it is a better case for RJJ to be considered ATG than Joe With this being said, Cotto hasn't done enough to be considered ATG... I hold the ATG status pretty high... this is just my opinion... no offense to Calzaghe fans (who could respond in the worse way :bbb:bbb)
