Unless the layoff and other distractions are overwhelming factors I like Wright to win this fight fairly commandingly. Dinamita is correct about this, I agree with him. It may not be a total Whitewash, but Williams' fundamental flaws will be exposed by Wright's class. Bad move by Team Williams.

Nope. Paul Williams is no Kelly Pavlik.

It could be rather like sending a 3rd grade kid into an advanced algebra class.

Winky isn't gonna be able to match PW's output and thats what the judges will be looking at.

Yes, I agree. Pavlik will likely have a better standing than Williams when the dust settles.

    With you on that, BR.

Williams said he would beat Pavlik EXACTLY the same way BHop did, only he would get the KO, but he had already turned down a fight with Pav, AFTER he said he wanted one.

Winky ignored Pavlik when KP called him out half a dozen times. After Kelly beat JT, Winky accused KP of ducking him. Top Rank offered Winky $2.4 million and a cut off the PPV revenue to fight KP. Winky turned it down.

I've noticed that talking smack about Pavlik, and actually taking a fight with him, are two different things.

If I gave the impression with my superficial comparisons between the Hopkins-Pavlik fight and the Wright-Williams fight that I thought Winky was the equal of B-Hop then that was an error on my part. I am very well aware that he is not, hence the reason I placed Hopkins at 32nd in my recent all-time pound-for-pound top 100 while I couldn't find a place for Winky within the list.

However, I still think Wright-Williams may go the same way as Hopkins-Pavlik. Although Winky is no B-Hop, he is still a superb fighter with a fantastic defence, the type of fighter that virtually no-one has a good night against.

To be honest, I think Paul Williams is a better fighter than Kelly Pavlik as well, and I can't see him being as passive as Kelly was v Hop, so I definitely can't see it being anywhere near as one-sided as Hop-Pav, but I still have a feeling that it may turn out to be a more convincing win for Winky than anyone suspects.

I hope I'm wrong because, as I said in the thread-start, I have high hopes for Paul Williams. If he can outbox Winky at 160, he is well on the road to maturing into a great fighter IMO.

    :thumbsup

Hopkins is definitely the sounder fighter than Winky was, but Winky Wright was pretty solid. Winky could lose this fight in a similar way though, simply by being outworked by Williams because he's not going to knock him out, that's for damn sure. And if Williams loses this fight, it's at 160 (or 154 don't remember), and won't affect his belt status. And, finally, a points lose to Winky Wright, with his style, isn't the type of thing that would kill his career in my opinion. Most of that are calling PW an unskilled fighter, don't know much of what they're talking about. He's got enough skills and combines them with his high workrate to win his fights. He's now starting off far more aggressively, and I find that it would be a good idea to do that to Winky, and simply never let Winky get comfortable. Where PW really has the edge is stamina. Winky doesn't have the legs he used to have. I see this fight as easily going to PW. If it doesn't, I'll eat my keyboard :)

    Well played :) :)

People like to use statements like that like they know what they are talking about, although, IMO, he actually used it correctly :)

His ring accomplishments are far greater than your posting accomplishments. Just because your keyboard is wider than tall, doesn't make your postings "lateral". It just makes you a keyboard warrior.

In an era where some people consider Joe Calzaghe to be the p4p#1, it appears this is what the Sweet Science has been reduced to. Moving your arms about = effective boxing. Willie Pep must be spinning in his ****ing grave.

Hell yes. All these guys think about is output and activity, that aint boxing. I hate it, and I hate the judges that appreciate it.
