Actually...steroids have been in boxing since at least the 60's, and before that, fighters were still doing everything they could to get an advantage.

It's not like just now people decided there was enough riding on boxing that they should do absolutely anything possible for an advantage.

Just like Ben Johnson and that whole fiasco, though, we just ignore it until the foreign guys start winning. Then, there's a "cheating problem".

 

And that, ironically, still didn't stop both guys from being juiced out of their gourds that night.

It was pretty obvious. The 90's were known as the steroid era for a reason, and the biggest fight of it wasn't about to be fought by two guys who weren't on anything.

There is no positive test as "proof" because the tests are simple to pass- especially if you know they're coming. That's why many athletes who were juicing never tested positive. PED testing isn't a test for drugs, it's a test for IQ.

As you posted though, everyone's been out for an advantage as long as there's been sports. Funnily enough, once everyone's on them, the field gets to be as close to level as it's going to be. :good

Let's just put it this way....a fighter would never turn down a fight months in advance due to fear of testing positive or a fear of needing to fight "clean". The benefits stay with you once you're off of the PED's, numerous PED's have a testable window less than 24 hours, and the system itself allows you multiple chances to miss tests without it even being reported (just in case you do slip).
