Couldn't possibly have existed how they are.

First, the observed increase in height has not been continuous since the dawn of man; it began sometime around the middle of the nineteenth century. In fact, examinations of skeletons show no significant differences in height from the stone age through the early 1800s. Also, during World Wars I and II, when hunger was a frequent companion of the German civilian population, the heights of the children actually declined. They only recovered during the post-war years.

Third, conditions of poor nutrition are well correlated to smaller stature. For example, the heights of all classes of people, from factory workers to the rich, increased as food quality, production and distribution became more reliable, although class differences still remain. Even more dramatic, the heights of vagrant London boys declined from 1780 to1800 and then rose three inches in just 30 years--an increase that paralleled improving conditions for the poor. Even today, height is used in some countries as an indicator of socioeconomic division, and differences can reveal discrimination within social, ethnic, economic, occupational and geographic groups.

Well with same day weigh ons they couldn't, but men of their size and frame have always boxed, Bowe or Lewis even just as they were would still not be the best in Ali's era, Joshua and Fury wouldn't either.

Better nutrition has led to humans getting bigger, a lot of people lived in poverty in the past, people eat more now and have bigger kids.

Steroids now and medical conditions then both Abe and Carnera were not normal not to say men like AJ and Wlad would not exist, with proper food they would just be less muscular thats it

Without readily available gains in nutrition and diet they might gas and fatigue much earlier too which could entirely restrict the style of boxing we know them for today. Punch resistance too. It could be the difference between a big guy fighting like Bowe or Willard.

The people who try to apply past conditions to modern day SHWs are nothing but biased people trying to give a crutch to modern day fighters. You have absolutely no idea how large someone like Lennox Lewis or Anthony Joshua would be in the 20s and 30s. Its likely they would be shorter due to inferior nutrition and/or skinner but you have no clue about the full extent of these variables and their effects.

Cut the bull****. If we're matching up Rocky Marciano vs Wladimir Klitschko we're going to use the REAL Marciano vs the REAL Wladimir Klitschko. And the result would be Wladimir Klitschko by domination

No they wouldn’t be any shorter. Send them back to that time as tall as they are, as 18 year old kids, and have them take part in a career using only what was available. This is so they can exist with the guy you match them with. And develop as a fighter did back then.

They probably would be shorter. Humans have been getting taller due to advances im science and nutrition, or more access to better nutrition at least. But thats just putting a crutch on modern SHWs. We're going to use their real life versions. We have no clue how skinny or how tall they would be if they grew up in the past.

This is getting weirder and weirder!

It doesn't take a genius to realize, that someone like Bowe likely would be too big, strong and good for many of the smaller great HWs from the past. This is not to denigrate the old-timers, or their accomplishments... they were great in their own time, and should be admired and honoured for that.

But for some strange reason, this is not enough for you! No, you want to transport Bowe back in time, and let him grow up in an era where he's deprived of proper nutrition. With the hoped for (by you!) result, that he gasses sooner, becomes less durable - and fights more like Willard, than the "real" Riddick Bowe. Sigh...

The only thing that makes readily available new science “proper nutrition” is the time that it is available and perhaps the ability to mask illegal performance enhancing drugs.

Yes thank you! And you can see in this chart his legs are thin, with 13" calves.
I am surprised Louis is just 20", but 18" if accurate is really small for a HW.
If so, it is because they measure at mid-thigh, which I understand is the proper method.
if done near the top, even Maxie would get a bit bigger number.
