I've trained boxing for a while, some JKD, and almost got in a street fight today. I didn't, but had a few questions I thought I'd like to know.

#1. I've boxed a lot, and been hit with 8 oz gloves QUITE HARD. I know they say it's a myth as far as like 4 oz gloves, 8 oz, 12, etc that you don't get hit harder just cuz it's less padding. My question though if somebody hit me 100% with 8 oz, and 100% bare handed...Anybody know the difference? I know knuckles cut and they'll dig in, but as far as actual force does it make a huge difference??
#2. Like I said I've been training hard, and I feel confident in my abilities, BUT not as much as I should be IMO! I spar at least once a week. I'm boxing some kid right now that outweighs me by 30 pds, and has 4 inch height advantage, and I'm more than willing to get inside, and go to war with him (even though I'm faster/ more skilled). I don't feel so confident street fighting because I haven't done it in 10 years...Even though I practice JDK, and MT. I do feel like IF I did get in a street fight I'd probably do fine, but anyway to boost my confidence?....Besides beating up people on the street ;)...
#3. I also feel like having so many styles is to much. Like my brain wouldn't know what one to pick. I'm short, and stocky so honestly knees, elbows, and hooks would be my goal (even wrestling I overpower most people near my size), but I also practice mule kicks, side kick to the knee, groin kicks, leg kicks, etc. Is it good to have lots of styles? OR sometimes to much is not good? Would my brain automatically pick something...Much like it does when your sparring, and you pick your punches/ see your openings?

This is a boxing forum, should stick to questions about boxing. I am not so nieve to think that you can always get out of a street fight. Yes they happen , but no i dont think youll find anyone wanting to answer questions on it! Grow up

to answer your first question there is a huge difference in power output in relation to glove size you should know this from sparring using 16 oz and in a fight its 10 oz, the 10 oz cause a lot more damage and are obviously a lot lighter, there was a study done which proved the difference in using 4oz gloves to 10 oz gloves was an increase in average punching power of 12 to 15 %, so mathematically getting hit with bare knuckle compared to say a 16oz sparring glove could be a difference of up to 30% or more

its a boxing training forum you should be training hard to compete in a fight not to street fight, if it comes to it then it happens but i wouldnt go about worrying about it, if you can handle yourself in the ring i wouldnt worry about not being able to handle youself against an untrained fighter, but would it be worth it if you hit him knocked him out and he hits his head off the ground causing serious injury, you wont be able to train much in your 10 x 8 cell, there will be plenty of guys there willing to stand and trade with you on the inside too

If you are worried about street figting then you should start off easy and make your progression to fighting tough arsed bro's a long process. Maybe start by fighting a small child or an handicap person, do this 2 or 3 times and then go onto small women or a frail old person (once again a women would be an easier task). When you feel confortable in your abilities in a real street fight you can then make things tough for yourself, a loss or 4 will only make you stronger in the long run.

There should be no reason for you to get into a fight. If you do- be first. Close thread.

I'm surprised at how unwelcome the thread is. As for it being a strictly "boxing forum" how about look on the front page, and see how well that applies. I see somebody selling a weight bench, protein shakes, weight lifting, etc.
It's not like I said I'm looking for a street fight. The fight almost found me. And yeah...Most of the time you don't have to fight, but in life you might have too.
And I'm sure as many people that post on the training section...All of you guys don't fight amatuers, or actual matches. I'm sure some people train because they like the sport, and *SELF DEFENSE*. I'm sure if somebody starts stuff with everybody I posted, or there's a physichal altercation...There not just going to walk away.
That being said thanks SouthpawSlayer as he provided the only helpful info. It'd be different if I was walking around trying to bully people, but I had legitimate questions about self defense.
and #3 was a question about styles, and nothing about actually fighting, and still nobody answered it.

    street fights are for idiots

if fights are finding you you are doing something wrong. i havent had a fight in ages. Unless your cocky and a dickhead you will never get into a fight, although you might get mugged or something similar

    That pretty much says all.

This section is about the sport boxing. I've told this many times, so it should not surprise anyone.
