Ah yes, the allure of an unknown puncher! Back then there wasn’t an Internet to view a fighters record let alone see him. Today there is. Looking back, Courage struggled in a few fights before he was exposed vs. very weak opposition, and never really accomplished much as an amateur. http://boxrec.com/boxer/9008
^ this I remember the only news I could find on the guy was ring prospect of month and KO magazine. Then HBO started jumping on bandwagon. Times are so much different today.
oh pipe down :rofl ashamed? listen getting excited about a young fella's skills is part of being a fan, courage could throw a good punch. He had a lot of "whip" on his punches and at low levels he crushed some dudes better than other decent fighters had crushed them. That is always going to draw attention. In the end Courage couldn't take top level hard shots, lol, that's not a crime, nobody knows how they will react to top level hard shots, that's what makes the sport of boxing what it is.
I always wanted to find out the inner details of Nick durant selling this commodity to Main Events. Why Lou Duva got behind the guy I'll never understand. Mystifying actually. Lou works with boxers. For how many decades? Why this guy? A slugger of the highest degree? Really the guy Tshabalala was on par with was DuPlooy and that terrific amatuer record of his. Another guy Lou tried for a nanosecond. It sure is a tough sport to figure sometimes & Courage went the way of being a sparring partner a long time ago. But I watched and followed Tshabalala prior to the old "heavyweight explosion" series. Interestingly, it was Rahman who did the best out of that crop & I did not think he was ever going to be the one at the top of the heap. But he did what the others couldn't--get better and improve.
I am not criticizing the fans per se. I too brought into the hype at first. My point was you cannot criticize HBO for building up the hype. It became obvious after a fairly short period Courage was not quite up to it, and if you could not see that, then that was your own fault, not HBO's.
^ very true once you got to see him it was like, this guy really all that he doesn't look it. Then boom the ride was over.
yeah I agree with that, I just thought ashamed was a bit much because I don't recall HBO saying he was a world beater, I don't recall thinking he was a world beater, I just recall he could bang a bit and was untested, thus that's all I ever took him as and that is well prior to his first pro loss :bbb
