It looks like Couture is back and the UFC will even cross promote for this fight. I really didn't think Dana was going to stand by and let someone else get this fight. Not to mention I'm sure they both didn't want to drag all that crap through court for years.

only prob is if couture faces lesnar in Nov and loses that will certainly take away from the the biggest fight in MMA history. Lesnar is a bad matchup for randy and that is a risky fight.

Sources: Couture versus Emelianenko targeted for early 2009 by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Aug 30, 2008 at 5:30 pm ET

The long-rumored heavyweight superfight between UFC champion Randy Couture (16-8 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and WAMMA champion Fedor Emelianenko (28-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is currently being discussed for an as-yet-unspecified date in January or February of 2009.

Sources inside Couture's Xtreme Couture camp today informed MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) of the ongoing negotiations between the UFC and both fighters.

The fight is far from a done deal. Many of the same issues that prevented Emelianenko from signing with the UFC during previous negotiations must still be ironed out. But it appears that the UFC and representatives for both Couture and Emelianenko are working towards bringing the two legends together for a long-awaited bout.

Additionally, the same sources are reporting that Couture is currently "actively training for a fight."

Couture has remained in shape throughout his self-imposed 12-month layoff, but his workouts are now reportedly being geared towards an apparent upcoming bout.

Adding to previous speculation that Couture's return may be on Nov. 15 at UFC 91 against Brock Lesnar, Xtreme Couture is also reportedly making travel arrangements to bring in several "larger heavyweights" as sparring partners for Couture.

Sources indicate the Emelianenko bout is contingent upon Couture defeating Lesnar in November.

Not really getting this. How is Couture Fedor going to work when Fedor is a free agent?

yes but the UFC doesnt do cross promotions. They sign fighters to exclusive contracts. Presumably are they looking still to sign Fedor to a 1 fight exclusive? As they tried this before and Dana is still bad mouthing Fedor. Personally i believe theres more chance of pigs flying than Fedor Couture happening bearing in mind Couture would have to get by Lesnar first and is signing a multi fiht deal with the UFC.

A lot of people are reporting this, so this may happen. Let's hope it does! This would be awesome. And Randy will own Lesnar anyway. For Christ's sake, Lesnar is 2-1 in MMA, and he is being hailed as the next Fedor...

I don't see this fight happening if Couture is re-signing with the UFC. They couldn't make the fight before - so why would they make the effort to sign Fedor now - particularly in light of Fedor being the flagship fighter of the rival MMA org Affliction.

    Not gonna happen like this.

Couture has more chance of beating Fedor than Lesnar imo. I could conceivably see Randy clinching Fedor against the fence or getting the topposition on the ground and opening cuts with elbows. But what is he going to do to a 280lb wrestler?

Lesnar takes Couture down, Couture pulls out a submission or takes top position and grinds it out. Couture should take this fight but it will be a lot of hard work for sure.

Fedor is way too quick for both Couture and Lesnar, neither of them would have a chance realistically.

Exactly, its getting old, how hard can it be for 2 guys to have a ****ing fight.

I personally think its gonna leave a lot of fans disappointed as I think Randy has got close to zero chance in this fight & I see Fedor stopping him.
If Chuck can beat him by KO twice then you better believe Fedor is gonna **** him up.

The top 2 HWTs are still Fedor & big Nog, both would be too much for Randy IMHO & I like Randy a lot, he`s 1 of my fav`s of all time.

    :thumbsup
