BJJ blackbelts are not that impossible to get. I am not suprised that Randy would get one. I am more surprised that he hasn't had one already. My guess is that they were already going to give him one, and decided to do it in the cage after the fight figuring that he was going to submit Toney (which is obviously why they had it on hand). Randy is actually pretty savvy with his submissions when he goes for them. 3 out of Couture's last 6 wins were by way of Arm Triangle Choke, Rear Naked Choke, and Anaconda Choke. That and considering that he managed to escape or neutralize every submission attempt by the legendary Big Nog, and submission grapple Jacare to a draw.... why is Randy achieving a black belt such a shocker? What he has done is pretty damn impressive. BJJ isn't only about getting sub victories every fight. His submission defense is top notch, and his transitions are extremely good as well.
lot of butt hurt militant boxing guys. Is it really that hard to enjoy both sports? Really? Really guys? Don't cry because Randy refused to box James. That's ****ing idiotic. Did James know he was going to be fighting an MMA fight and not a boxing match? If he stood in the wrong stance, he left himself open. His coach said he was going to work on James' take down defense but apparently James didn't listen that well. Did he come in looking like a fat ****? 237 pounds doesn't sound like he'd been training, it sounds like he took a few pretty pictures for the public and went back to his hoagies. I enjoy both sports. I expected Randy to beat the **** out of James because James was going to talk more than he was going to train and it showed. Stop crying about it and go on about your business. It's not like a top level boxer decided to switch over and train MMA on the side and then decide , "well, I've been cross training for a while now, let me take a few UFC fights." James has been done for a while, stop expecting this to have been a pity fight where he gets 20 seconds of stand up only. ****'s sake.
Couture on the Toney fight... “I had no illusions of standing around and trading any kind of blows with James,” said Couture, a collegiate All-American wrestler for Oklahoma State University and four-time Olympic alternate. “I had to pull out the old low single from college and dust it off. I spent the whole camp working on that low shot because it’s pretty hard to counter-punch that.” “The first thing I noticed when I got into the cage and kind of settled in was that he was wearing those things on his feet,” said Couture. “A huge thing with shooting a low single is you’re used to doing it against wrestlers when they’re wearing shoes ‘cause it’s something that I can grip, so when he had those things on his feet, I was like, ‘Oh, this is going to be better. I have something I can grip.’” “I didn’t feel like he demonstrated any solid skills once he hit his butt,” said Couture. “He didn’t close his guard. He didn’t protect himself that well; I was able to maneuver and get to mount pretty easily. From mount I knew he had no idea-- I could hear his corner yelling at him…but he was more interested in trying to butt me in the head from his back.” Couture on a boxing match with Toney. “It would be as silly as I think it is for James to jump into mixed martial arts the way he did here and I think it would go about the same way,” said Couture. “James would probably knock me out in the first round.”
good going shit**** because your not wrong one little bit with what you just said as u bet it would have been braver of randy to stand and trade with james there is NO QUESTION however it also would of been braver of toney not to submit like a ***** ass ***** after couture had turned him into the black ned betty infront of the entire world in under 4 minutez so letz both remember that the next time we're in a fight if we are trading and getting murdered and we seriously think we can take the other guy down and finish him thatz probably what were going to do letz also not forget the next time were in a fight and standing and trading with a guy and murdering him he might shoot on us so letz try to knee him in the face in the meantime letz somehow try to get the image of james "the black ned beatty" out of our mindz everytime we think of him from now on because thatz simply unfair regardless to the fact that i swear i heard one of his final gruntz sounding creepily too familur to a "OINK"
blah blah blah. I'm sure im not the only one who told you this but I'm too tired to look over the thread: Couture wasn't the one talking trash about boxing and calling himself I'm the real champ/athlete w/e. No one in MMA has any delusions about superiority of boxers in a boxing ring. Except perhaps Anderson Silva, but he's a first class douchebag(first class is awarded to douchebags who act humble but are douchebags.)
lmfao at black belts not that impossible to get they dont just hand them out even if you can kick the **** out of a bjj-dude in a MMA contest you know window_licker use your brain and lay off the windex
Yes. Would have been so sweet for Maia to hit him with a flying armbar a la Vinny Magalhaes v PDP circa ADCC.
i'm a huge fan of both sports but my god the boxing fans on this site are just painful. i never saw a bigger bunch of cry babies.
Randy oozes class. From the beginning I said I should be supporting Randy simply because Toney is a **** and he is class. Unfortunately that is no fun and I like the whole hype underdog bull****.
So... you are saying that BJJ Black Belts are impossible to get? You are a obviously a true brain child. Who the hell said they just hand them out? There is a pretty big difference between just handing them out and being impossible to get isn't there? Are you a waterhead? Your response would lead me to believe so.
I gave Toney a chance coming in, seeing Coutures chin is not what it used to be. Though the outcome of last nights fight was probably most probable. Toney looked like he didn't even train for this paycheck, I mean fight. Was I the only one that was a little surprised Toney lasted as long as he did on his back? I remember Couture getting him in a hold and Toney managing to get out of it, to only be put in even worse hold seconds later. The Mercer/Sylvia probably gave alot of boxers the confidence to step into MMA, knowing that one good punch from a professional boxer is all you need to finish a MMA guy. Too bad Toney wasn't able to land one last night.
ok window_licker you lead me to believe you will believe anything so let me help you out first of all i said, "they dont just hand them out if you can kick the **** out of a bjj dude in a MMA contest" so you NEVER said that it was ME that said that so stop creating fiction that you BELIEVE in when your communicating with the others second of all i clearly never stated they were IMPOSSIBLE to get so you ALSO desperately pulled that out of your arse and then tried to PAWN it off on me and i dont think you were even aware you did it witch meanz your delusional third because your delusional and will believe anything i must take pity on you and state that, "yes there is a big difference between handing them out and being impossible to get" your very right window_licker and well done you just created a single point without delusion <<< placez rubber helmet back on window_lickers head, walkz outta thread
