Couture vs Fedor: Who ducked whom?

    Why did the biggest mega-fight of MMA never take place?

    Its not a question of ducking, I think its more a question of it being a mismatch. Vera beat Couture, there you go.

    Well the way I see it is that Couture - at that time the UFC heavyweight champion - left the UFC and tried to get out of his contract to fight Fedor. Fedor never tried to break from M1 to fight Couture.

    Chimba, you're my boy - but mismatch my ass! Couture has the best heavyweight greco-roman wrestling of all time and is the perfect style to put Fedor on his back and punch his face in. Fedor had trouble dealing with poor old Lindland's upper body clinch until he overpowered him due to the size advantage of fighting a heavyweight. One could argue Couture was more of a natural light heavyweight - but he fought well at heavyweight - just not against the super-heavyweights so to speak. Fedor is a smallish heavyweight as well. I don't think he would have been able to keep Couture from putting him on his back and TKOing him late in five rounds. :deal:bbb:hey

    To be fair, Fedors management has really screwed up the UFC negotiations. I really hope that the big gym in Fedors hometown is really his.

    I have a feeling that Fedors legacy will be tarnished in the coming years.

    I had better seats because I watched it live on my TV with close ups and Randy controlled that fight! Every time Vera had an advantage, Couture rallied back to regain control of the fight. It was pure character and will overcoming the mentally weaker fighter.

    Just playing, I agree I can see Couture with his "gameplan" smothering Fedor. Fedors not excatly hard to take down, my only worry for Randy is that during this time, his punch resistance has gone down quite a bit.

    It looked bad ringside... i thought Vera had it 2 - 1 and when i watched it again i gave 1 round to Randy and the other two 10 - 10.

    I know MMA judges don't do that but that is just because they have no clue how to count to ten.

    well...nobody ducked nobody cause Fedor lost due to a cut and Couture was subbed by Valentijn Overeem ;) I'm just kiddin !:D

    But that fight could have happened at Rings in 2001 ;)

    I don't know what's going on with you at the moment sugarngold, but you're in dreamland mate. Fantasy Camp. It doesn't matter when the fight could've happened, because whenever it was, Fedor would brutalize Randy. I like Randy, I have a lot of respect for him, but even his superior wrestling would not be anywhere near enough against someone as all-round deadly as Fedor. If lhw Chuck could knock Randy out twice and guys like V Overeem and Ricco Rodriguez could submit him, how's he beating a guy who creamed prime Big Nog and prime Crocop? All the Captain America and UFC HOF stuff should never obscure the fact that Fedor was always a much better fighter.

    Couture's wrestling is very overrated
    The guy wasnt able to take Vera down, but Jones and T.Silva did it very easily.
