Pointless fight. Couture would have been dropped quickly from Fedor's punches. I'm talking less than a minute into rd 1.

Say what you want in predicting a winner, but it was not a pointless fight. Couture vs Fedor was the biggest fight to be made at that time.

Cro Cop came to the UFC, touted by many as the inevitable champion, after winning the Pride Grand Prix. Cro Cop stopped Wanderlei Silva and Josh Barnett on the same night, both in the first round. Gabriel Gonzaga crushed Filipovic and any aura of invisibility he was bringing with him.

Couture dominated Gonzaga in his first defense of his UFC title, after dominating Tim Sylvia in 5 round blow out. Couture was also one of the few, big, names missing from Fedor's resume.

Fedor was Fedor, only without having lost to Werdum.

This was one of the biggest fights to never happen.

the fight would have played out like fedor / coleman. i respect couture but fedor was on a level above everyone

I meant it was a pointless fight from the standpoint of seeing who is/was the best. Because Fedor is obviously better. But it would have been a huge fight I do agree.

Couture would have had a chance if Fedor came to the UFC in 2008. Fedor would be fighting with rules he was unfamilar with and in a cage.

It's a good thing for 10-10 scored rounds to be discouraged from judging. The more 10-10 rounds are likely the more draws are likely.

I would say neither ducked each other they were just controlled by their promotions. Randy tried to go fight Fedor, but the UFC still had him under contract and would not let him leave or co-promote with M1. Fedor seemed to do whatever M1 wanted, so they didn't fight.

Couture was NEVER in Fedor's league. This was a smoke and mirror show. Couture gets destroyed by Liddel twice then moves to heavyweight and beats Tim Sylvia and Gonzage and all of a sudden he was on Fedors level and a fight between them was hyped to another ****ing galaxy! Combine what happened in the Liddel fights with what happened when Nog outgrappled him and that is what you would've gotten if he ever fought Fedor.

Because of Couture's popularity, not his skill set and ability. This fight was clearly an awful matchup for Couture and would've been a one-sided ass beating. Couture cannot do ONE THING that would trouble Fedor :deal

I agree. Everyone talked about "the clinch" and what not. I said yeah, Randy clinches, Fedor's Sambo allows him to easily judo toss him to the mat and dismantle him.

But I still think Randy would be Koed standing.

The real thing here is, the speed difference.

Fedor handspeed is like a LW

    Randy's is like a SHW.
Couture is very slow, and always has been

randy only looses when someone lands a bomb on him. to beat randy pre 45 anyway a lucky punch is what it took bc he always out works and controlls the action. i think if randy could have gotten to the clinch at the beginning of each round which is a more likely scenario than getting caught then he would have won a decision or stopped fedor. no one real ever know though but when you think about the fight that is how it would play out.

Two out of three of his submission losses came when he was still training to go to the olympics in greco-wrestling. The wrestling training was giving him bad instincts and that's why he was getting caught.

This discussion is increasingly absurd. I can't believe there are many idiots who don't give Couture credit for what he has achieved. When he debuted in 1997 he was already older than Fedor is now. To achieve what he has at such an advanced age is remarkable.

  15. Randy tried to fight Fedor in Affliction, M-1 Global was willing to co-promote with Affliction to make the fight happen. The UFC fearing that its current champion would get demolished just like many of their previous champions before tried to halt the fight and took Randy to court. The fighters didnt duck each other, it was purely the fault of the UFC that the fight didnt happen.
