“I think it’s going to be a good fight,” Couture said. “I’m a fan of the sport first and foremost. I think it’s an interesting match-up. Nogueira’s strength tends to be on the ground and in the submission game, and Tim is just a long, strong, hard-to-take-down guy who’s got great striking abilities. It’s a classic match-up and for the interim title, so they both have a lot on the line. “I like Tim’s chances in that fight given Nogueira’s performance against Heath Herring in the last fight. I like Sylvia in a stoppage of some kind.“ http://mmajunkie.com/2008/01/27/randy-couture-predicts-victory-for-tim-sylvia/ I personally disagree with "hard to take down" comment but i think he's spot on about Nog's performance vs Herring. I don't know about you guys , but seeing nog almost getting brutally koed by Herring isn't reassuring at all. And keep in mind that Nogueira defeated Herring twice in pride fc prior to this ufc (re)rematch. Now , obviously anyone would go down with a kick like that but it's not the point. It shouldn't have happened in the first place. Bad judgement on nog's part and he was lucky that Herring wasn't continuing to attack him on the ground. That's what saved him. If Sylvia , somehow manages to pull something like this he'll jump at the opportunity to tko him asap.
I'm pulling for tim but don't get me wrong. I actually hate the guy's guts. and i think he's as one dimensional as it gets. but on the other hand , i don't want have a division dominated by Nogueira aka fedor's punching bag. to have a so called "champ of the world" who got annihilated on several occasions by a guy (emelianenko) who'll never fight in the ufc anyway , is not a good option in my book. i don't like it. too much of a frustrating situation... i'd rather see sylvia losing the belt against someone else.
Im not sure wether this match even interests me. Nog has seen better days and Tim is just horrible to watch.
This is bad news for NOg. Couture has been on a hot streak. I'm still picking NOg though. I think his striking is better then given credit for and I don't think he will fight scared like Vera or Arlovski.
Sylvia by r3 ko in a real bore. I kinda like the fight but do not know what would be worse for the division a Tim win or a Nog win.
For the division, it would be better if Nog won and won big. For the ego of the UFC, it would be better if Sylvia won. For Fedor ever coming to the UFC possibly, it would be better if Sylvia won. For Couture to ever fight in the UFC again, it would be better if Nog won. Just pick your poison. :deal
Short of Nog triangling him to death, I think this is going to be horrid fight. Think Vera/Syliva, but for 5 rounds.
Couture got every pick wrong at the last UFC expect picking Penn to win. Randy is only picking Tim because he declined to fight Nog and if Rodrigo wins it looks like Randy ducked him but if Tim wins Randy looks good as he already beat Sylvia and his decision to not fight Nog will be forgotten.
