I’d say 1970s forward, what interesting or important fights are known or believed to have been on film or video but seem not to be findable?

And why? I understand missing stuff from the Greb era where there probably weren’t many copies (if any) and the originals may have ended up deteriorating or in a dump somewhere, but why would more recent gems be beyond reach?

    Two that come to mind:

Sean O’Grady vs. Danny Lopez — was this filmed? It’s a very young O’Grady thrown in too tough and taking his first defeat.

Ray Leonard vs. Randy Shields — I would have sworn that all of Leonard’s fights would have been televised somewhere and Shields was hardly an unknown ... spent a good period as a contender and fought most of the top guys of his era.

What else is missing, and are there hopes that they’ll turn up?

One that immediately comes to mind is Arnold Taylor v Romeo Anaya. There's some grainy footage of the knockout but nothing else. One of the best fights of the 70s by any written account of it.

1973-11-03 : Romeo Anaya 117¾ lbs lost to Arnold Taylor 118 lbs by KO in round 14 of 15
    The Fight summary:

On 3 November 1973, Taylor met the Lineal WBA World Bantamweight champion, Mexico's Romeo Anaya, in a match refereed by Stanley Christodoulou. The fight is considered by many one of boxing's classic fights. One South African sportswriter called it "the bloodiest fight in South African boxing history". Taylor suffered a cut and was knocked down once in round five and three times in round eight (the WBA has since adopted a rule where a fighter is automatically declared a knockout loser if he or she is knocked down three times in the same round). Nevertheless, Taylor also cut the champion, and, in round fourteen, he connected with a right hand to Anaya's jaw, sending him to the floor. Feeling that this was his moment to become a world champion, Taylor screamed to his trainers: "He's gone!" from a neutral corner. It took Anaya two minutes to get up, and Taylor won the World Bantamweight crown.
    • Taylor down three times in the 8th, once in the 10th.
    • Ranked #15 Greatest Title Fight of All-Time by Ring Magazine in 1996.
    • Ring Magazine's #1 Bantamweight Fight of the Last 80 Years (1922-2002)

    This.

Also, though it doesn't qualify as 1970 forward, Tiger-Depaula would be great to see. Fight of The Year, and somehow wasn't filmed.

Yes me to, I had this one down on another thread as a lost film, I'd like to see. It was indeed filmed and would have been on live TV. Someone on this site, maybe Klompton, wrote that the film had been lost in a fire. Let's hope that there is still a copy somewhere of the great Tiger containing the rugged DePaula.
How about his third fight with Fullmer in Nigeria?, I've never seen that.

Years ago I got a copy from that boxing video guy out of Minnesota (I'm sure a few of you may have ordered fights from him) of the Eddie Gregory-Matthew Franklin fight. I thought I would get the fight in its entirety but only got 4-5 rounds. I'm fairly sure it's not available from start to finish. Let me know if it is.
