Dirrell is one of my favourite fighters. A class act in and out of the ring.

Ward would've beat the **** out of Dirrell. He would have been eliminated from the tournament with a high mountain to climb all over again. His marketability would be shattered.

I'm not saying I support his decision (not at all, I would have fought) but I understand what they are thinking. They are thinking "let's dodge this fight, blame it on an injury and then milk our status against lesser opponents until a big money fight shows up"

Froch has 2 points and a win over Dirrell. Abraham has 3 points. Ward has 4. And if either Green or Johnson get a stoppage (very possible if one is in shape and the other isn't) they will have 3.

I disagree. Ward might have beaten him but only in a close, hard fight. I would have picked Dirrell to beat Ward, in fact.

 

I have the distinct feeling that Dirrell shall make a remarkable recovery-directly AFTER the Stupid 6 series is over.

 

That's what I think too. I think they evaluated the situation and realized that they had a better chance to "make money" if the fight with Ward didn't happen.

I don't think there's any reason to hold back about Dirrell any more. It's clear what happened here and Showtime being so critical of him, is the final straw. they know what happened and it's right that they openly criticize him for it. Realistically, the fight was never close and as soon as Showtime threatened legal action, Dirrell suddenly develops a brain condition that wasn't spotted by doctors immediately after the fight, can't be proven and, more than all that, is something Dirrell denied at one point. He has clearly exaggerated or blatantly made up this injury to avoid fighting Ward. I don't think it's because he's Ward's friend, I think he's scared of losing because he knows that, if he does, he's done.

HBO are finished with him and will never show him again and, from this, it looks like Showtime will follow suit. I'm glad.

The only remaining question is whether he exaggerated the punch too, or whether that was legitimate. Who knows? I think there's enough suspicion around Dirrell to think long and hard, at the very least.

 

I think Ward might have knocked Dirrell out. I'd give him a 30% chance. And he wouldn't lose more than 3 rounds

I can't see it. Ward is a technician, but he is not a finisher at this level, imo. If he were, I have no doubt Green would've been out of there. If Ward had the power, that fight would've ended inside the distance easily because he had everything on him and Green was a limp dick getting smacked around. Er...No homo. Anyway, Dirrell is certainly no Green.
