Cracking Khan interview with Bunce

    Some choice points that caught my attention:

    * He seems like he's gunning for a re-match with Prescott - now that he has his own Promotions company the likelyhood of this happening has increased substantially

    * [To my relief] he sounded like he still wants to use Warren's Sports Network but do so inconjunction with Khan Promotions - to enable him to get fights he otherwise wouldn't be able to, either because Warren thinks it's too dangerous or where the fighter doesn't want to deal with Warren (e.g. Hatton).

    * There could potentially be a fight with Khan / Judah down the road, although names like Marquez, Hatton, Diaz are on Khan's mind once he's past Salita

    * Next fight will almost certainly be in the states

    * Negotiations on the contract with Warren will begin after the Salita fight

    * I think with Khan promotions, we're now going to see a less 'protected' Khan where he has more say in future opponents.

    * Khan sounds like a good kid, pretty well grounded and honest. A down to earth lad.


    .... I want one of those Sports Massages he talks about at the end of the interview! ;-)

    Top kid is Khan but I can't help but feel he will get chinned the first time he fights anyone world class.

    Excellent interview with Khan. Sounds like he's got his head screwed on, not getting too carried away. Makes sense to keep Warren involved, no point ****ing him right off and going it alone. I think the whole point of Khan Promotions is so that he can have more of a say in the fights that are made in the future.

    .......and there is the problem. a less protected amir khan is unfortunately a unconscious khan

    I agree - it does worry me. Khan truly seems to believe in himself and doesn't think he has a chin issue.

    However, that said, i think (hope?) Roach will be able to "protect" khan from himself and steer him away from wreckless fights.

    The next 12 months should see some dangerous opponents and will be sink or swim for khan. He's either gonna get KTFO or prove the chinster's wrong.

    Either way as a boxing fan, i'm excited! :happy

    Freddie Roach is pretty much his match maker now.

    really dont understand his obbsession with america. he will make less money fighting there, and the yanks will hate his style. he is a boring fighter now.

    Absolutely. There's no sense in him ditching the top promoter in the country aged 22 after 1 world title defense. Warren got him Barrera at a sell out MEN arena. Warren got him a WBA title shot at exactly the right time. Warren will continue to help him. And there's so many exciting fights out there for him in a great weight division.

    Khan is a really nice guy and a good ambassador for British Boxing.

    I'd love to see him succeed but unfortunately his chin doesn't match the rest of his ability.

    Shame.

    It looks to me like Khan will split from Warren, maybe not immediately but within the medium term, and promote himself or via a mayweather promotions style vanity project with Golden Boy. I wouldnt be surprised if Waren, who's as shrewd as they come, starts throwing him into tougher fights against world class guys next year to get as much money out of him as possible before he splits. To be honest, as othes have pointed out Warren has done a good job with Khan, especially given the Prescott loss, and if i was in his shoes i wouldnt be leaving Warren any time soon.
