I think that's my favuorite thing he's ever done, for a while anyway. Defo my favourite Foreman read for a number of years.
He's on Romney Marsh ,only about 25 miles from me. I used to run dogs there, pre ban. There's a great pub ,called the Red Lion, at Snargate, near Appledore, its like stepping back in time.Old style till, and real beer.An old girl called Doris owns it,[if she's still alive.] It's like entering The Twilight Zone.
Running hares and foxes with dogs was banned under the last Labour government, 2005 , principally because Tony Blair accepted £1000,000 from the IWWF towards his campaign expenses, with the undertaking that he would introduce a vote into the House Of Commons, calling for a ban.. Also because it was perceived by certain sections of the far left to be an upper class past time. I. E. Them and Us, the "toffs against the noble workers" Over 140 hours of Parliamentary time were taken up with the bill, this at a time when we were at war in Iraq , seeking weapons of MOD, none of which were ever found. After introducing the Bill, both Blair ,and Brown abstained from voting on it, but they kept the ££££. The ban has contributed nothing to animal welfare, and has resulted in widespread shooting, trapping ,gassing, and poisoning of Foxes. Iit is still legal to "run" Rabbits and Rats with dogs, the logic of this escapes me. Foxhound, Harrier ,and Beagle packs , hunt as much , if not more ,under the new restrictions imposed ,and the various clubs report a 25% increase in membership of the various hunt followers . The Tory party has pledged a free vote on a bill to overturn the unworkable, and class driven ban that is in place at the moment. The Liberal Democrats are somewhat divided on this , as on most things really . Here endeth the political lesson.
