Craig McEwan is fighting tomorrow night at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, on the undercard of Wright v Williams. His original opponent, Emmanuel Gonzalez, is rumoured to be "helping police with enquiries" in Puerto Rico so he has been replaced by Alexis Divison. Craig has spent the last 3 weeks in Las Vegas sparring with Winky who is reported to be delighted with the work Craig has given him. Craig is a bit frustrated that his recent comprehensive demolition of Ivan Stovall has not been followed by a step up in class but he has been told to expect something later in the year. Unfortunately Golden Boy have no plans to have him fight outside the US anytime soon. Freddy Roach and his manager Billy Keane would like him to fight at 154 eventually and Craig tells me he is confident he can easily make that weight.
Christ that Alexis Division fella is on a 8 fight losing streak! Early night for McEwan. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=78134&cat=boxer
Craig can be a major prospect if he moves dow to 154 successfully. I don't think he's a huge puncher at middleweight, but he's got skills.
good to hear that he is fighting again ...granted its not the best opponent.but at least hes beign kept busy
Does anyone know if he has any long term plans to come back to Scotland/UK? Would love to see him on a pro card in Glasgow or Edinburgh.
it really just depends mate,i interviewd him earlier this year and there was no plans then. The hsad planned to put him on the hatton/lazcanao undercard but the lother bhoy pulled out. so unless there is a golden boy/hayemaker show/hatton show that is huge then there wont be any uk show for him i would imagen...but grendal is more than informed to let you know#1
Hi Rusty, there are no plans to have him box over here though Craig would love to. I think, if he had a choice, he would rather beat English fighters than any others!! However Golden Boy Promotions see him fighting for an American title rather than a British title. Freddy Roach wants Craig to fight someone like Vera, Kirkland but especially Angulo. He believes these fighters are all wary of fighting Craig and that`s why it hasn`t happened so far. But boxing is a funny game and fights which "should" take place often don`t. Craig has learned patience over there and he will fight whoever is put in front of him. The rest of us will just have to wait and see what transpires. He likes to stay "under the radar" but I know he appreciates the support he gets from the lads on this site.
I think it's proabably better for him to fight and come up in the states. He will have a much easier time getting title shots, publicity and the attention of the big TV channels like HBO etc. Still I'm definately a fan.
I'm not just saying this because I'm Scottish, but I seriously think Craig has the skill to out hustle Angulo and beat him handily.
Early night, sure enough. Craig stopped his man in 1.49 of the first round witth a body to head combination. There are hints of a late inclusion on the Pacman v Hatton undercard. It would be nice but we shouldn`t hold our breath!
He looks a good boxer but until he faces a good opponent we will not really know how far he can go. Good luck to the bloke.
