cheers for the update grendal, good luck to craig in the future, i'm sure he'll do the saltire proud. aw the best team mcewan :good
Gasman. Put yourself in my shoes for a minute here. I just been told that Craig McEwan knows who I am & likes me? As a scottish boxing fan theres no bigger buzz than that. I been posting here for years, but to find out a fighter who I love here knows me & rates me? Thats the stuff dreams are made of. Theres no bigger buzz than that as a fan, TRUST ME! Im totally blown away if the truth be told. Craig McEwan knows me, likes me & rates me? I could retire from here tomorrow knowing that, what other poster on here is rated by the fighter they love? Im so blown away its unreal. It just shows any poster on here though that if they believe in their man? Dreams can come true on ESB. I am proof.
Dunky, yes craig is a very good fighter but to say hes more talented than harrison is nonsense mate.you seem to be expecting craig to win world titles with ease this doesn't happen,my only concern with craig is his core body strength hopefully its a lot better than when he was younger,it actually suprised me macklin and craig sharing the same gym as craig was floored by maklin in sparring in glasgow years back when maklin was only a welter, time for revenge maybe.
Have to agree with Billy there Dunky. To rate Craig above Scott Harrison now is a bit premature....but maybe someday! Billy, you are right to identify Craig`s lack of body strength as a problem in the amateurs. You have been involved in bringing fighters through from the amateurs and will be aware that Craig, in particular, had almost to re-invent himself when he turned pro. His amateur approach and style was specifically geared to the point collecting and counterpunching he developed there but these qualities can be suicidal in the pro game. The process he is going through at the Wildcard is designed to do just that and he is a different animal from the one you worked with 5 years ago. He is back in Edinburgh for a few weeks and could do with some good sparring. I`m sure he would be happy to meet up with you again so if you have any lads around SMWish over there who could do with a hard workout, he wouldn`t take much persuading to come over to spar.It would also give you the opportunity to assess his progress and I know he would value your advice. BTW he swears he`s never been knocked down by Macklin. He thinks you may mean an English lad called "something like Fletcher" who floored him with a body shot in sparring but he says it definitely wasn`t Matthew. Dunky, Craig hopes he can live up to your high expectations. He can be a lazy trainer at times so the next time I catch him slacking in the gym I`ll remind him of how disappointed you`ll be if he fails to win a title! And the slagging you`ll get on Eastside for your faith in him!
I hear you Dunky - that is quite a compliment. Think of my previous post as a parody of something that you would have said, in jest, if it were someone else.:good
yes your right mate it was terry fletcher, dont get me wrong craigs an excellent boxer and i wish him well,i dont have any boxers over light weight although ricky burns would spar him but im sure those two would be sick of seeing each other across a ring fighting 14 times in the ams.if craig would like to come to glasgow hes more than welcome in my gym.
Look, Mr Grendal. OK, so I get carried away in the moment sometimes, but I stand by what I basically say. Scotty Harrison was my hero, BUT sometimes you have to be brutally honest. & Im being honest when I say that I think Craig has the tools at his disposal to surpass Scotty Harrison, hes more of an all rounder than Scotty was. secondly, hes got the connections Scotty never had. Craigs got the best trainer in the business behind him, hes got Goldenboy behind him, Scotty Harrison never had that level of backing. In fact, I believe that Frank warren & Frank Maloney ruined Scott Harrison. After the Medina fights, they seemed to get cold feet & never let Harrison off the leash again. Damn, I could go on about this for ages, but Harrisons history now sadly enough... Listen. Im no cheerleader, I just happen to think that Craig McEwan has the ability + the connections to go further than my hero Scott Harrison. & I say that as a long term boxing fan & scottish boxing fan in particular who has followed the sport since the 80's. If that makes me a bad person in peoples eyes? Then so be it. I know my boxing though, & know the real deal when I see it. And I believe Craig McEwan is the real deal. All joking aside, thats how it is. & if I didnt believe so? I wouldnt even utter his name here. Trust me, I dont worship false idols!
I watched Harrison v Medina 2 for the 8 millionth time yesterday (loveed it at the end Billy when you appeared on screen in mid flight to congratulate your man lol ) and one thing I always find strange is people criticise Scotts first fight with Medina all the time but seem to forget how convincingly he won the rematch. Lennox Lewis gets all the credit in the world coz he rematched Rahman and won the 2nd time and lets be honest, Rahman is **** poor compared to Lewis but Medina was a top fighter who gave almost every opponent he faced a tough nights work. Not to mention Scott was obviously ill the first fight. I was at the breahead arena for that first one and there was clearly something just not right with Scotty that night. (who knows, he may have already been fighting his own demons by that point with regards to alchohol etc) Anyhow, looking forward to seeing Craig in action again (hopefully see him fighting in Scotland one day )and im sure he can go all the way with such a good team around him and he must get some great sparring at the wildcard gym too
Trust me kerrminator my good man, this kids for real. You & I have always been searching for a new hero after Scotty, Craigs that man. & I got some great evidence to back it up right now!:good You know me Kerrmy, I ALWAYS come prepared:smoke
I agree Dunky, Graig does have more skills than Scott, no question in my mind. Although will need to wait and see if he can surpass the wee man, Scott done great, as you know, but the there are deep waters where Craig fights, lots of good guys. I like the kid though, really like his style and watched him a lot as an amateur, he certainly has GREAT talent
cheers TD, just make sure you hang about long enough here with me so we can celebrate the big laddie winning a world title, cos its going to be the mother of all scottish parties on here:happy **** it, I will be so happy I will even invite Billy Nelson to our Craig McEwan celebration party! He can pour our drinks or something.
