The stoppage was fair, Gomez was taking way too much punishment, he would carry on till he was literally brain died from the flurries from Khan.

perspective....mmmm??..where did i ever say he was world class or agree with anything khan has boasted about himself....im merely commenting, from a neutral perspective being a huge fan of neither fighter involved, that khan was on a hiding to nothing in this one......yes, he had height and reach advantages, and yes gomez was meant to be a shot fighter....did he look like a shot fighter to you????....

the people who need to 'get some perspective ffs' are the hapless media and joe public armchair experts who will no doubt be quick to pounce on everything bad about this fight without giving any credit for the positivies....had khan boxed beautifully on his back foot and scored a shutout, dull points win he would have been slated for not getting a 'shot' lighter fighter out of there.....lose/lose for the bolton bighead here i feel...

Good post. I actually feel a lot more positive about Khan's prospects after last night. I thought there was a lot of good to take from his performance & I just have the feeling that, given the opportunity, he will raise his game. We do need to see him in with a world class operator soon though, no point holding him back much longer.

Not really the punches before the stoppage were not even connecting but were pitta patta b/s punches.

Khan had him hurt a lot more in previous rounds.

I thought the stoppage was terrible. I had a bad feeling as soon as I saw the ref standing so close to the action. And then he jumps in after Khan has missed four punches! Unbelievable. With the body punches and the number of shots Khan was throwing, he'd have been done after 6 rounds.

All the more reason for stopping it.

Watch round 5 again without the hate specs on and you will clearly see that Khan threw 14 unanswered shots, the majority of which landed. Letting the fight carry on would only prove one thing, and that is to demonstrate what an enormous heart Armstrong has, nothing else. Fair stoppage IMO.

Yet again that twat Khan wins by premature stoppage, is it just me or does nearly all of his fights get stopped the same way, it makes you wonder if these refs are getting a nice wee back hander. The guys a total wanker, cant wait for someone to ktfo of khan, the sooner the better. Have said all along he cant hold a decent punch, getting put down by a small s/feather, for ****s sake. He looked as if he was about to burst into tears when Wank Warren said he would hold him back from a world title fight, priceless.

Yeah while we are at it, lets remove head shots from boxing. I am not one to say let fights go on regardless, but you do not stop a fight from a flurry that does not land, while the opponent is ducking and weaving and has been throwing back, because he was hurt the round before.

    As I said watch Castillo=Corrales, Gatti-Ward, Brodie-Chi 1..or go further back and watch the Patterson-Johannson fights, Marciano-Walcott.

Some of the greatest fights of all time and some of the greatest domestic fights in living memory would never have happened if refs went along with what you guys are advocating.

Boxing is dangerous. There is no way you should let a man who is gone be battered or injured, so for example Alex Arthur should have been stopped after the second KD to Gomez. The ref should have stopped the Morrison-Mercer fight much sooner. But you don't just wave something off when the man is defending himself and on steady feet.

If you want refs to jump in the moment someone is hurt or if they have been hurt in a previous round and just been tagged again, even though they are moving and defending and not out on their feet...then you may as well advocate stopping the sport due to its risks.

I wasn't surprised the fight was stopped as most of Khans wins seem to come by way of referee stoppage - you only have to look at his record to see the number of RSF's on there.

I thought the Gomez stoppage was premature.

Will be interesting to see what happens if Khan is put in with a decent offensive Lightweight and a referee who is prepared to let the fight go beyond the middle rounds.

That's hardly unique though...most fights are stopped by the ref, rather than someone getting knocked out cold for the 10.

I thought it was a premature stoppage, but Gomez was looking run-down and he's taken a lot of stick over his career as it was...I'd like to have seen a little longer though. What's more disappointing is that Khan seems to get the blame for them, when it's out of his hands.

Apart from that, agree with everything, Strike.
