Hey guys, Gym I'm going to, the head trainer isn't very good. Boils down to him not having fought before. He doesn't inspire me and has a bit of a snobby, look down on people attitude. There's another gym, 30 minutes drive, the hours are in the evening though so I wouldn't be able to go to the gym to do my strength training with a friedn of mine. I'm thinking it boils down to what I want most, which is boxing. Would you put up with the worse of the two, but nearby gym, hit the weights and go to Manchester in September, or don't do your strength training and fun with the weights, go to a slightly far away gym, and possibly be a better boxer. I don't know, may-un!
imo u dont have to be a former fighter to be a good trainer u just have to be a student of the game and be willing to listen and improve yourself as a trainer. i now have my own gym. i only had a hand full of amature fights. but when i take my guys to other gyms or fights i listen to the other trainers and pick up pointers. once a trainer thinks he knows everything about boxing he should retire because a good trainer should always be trying to improve his own skills.
He doesn't inspire me much, I mean he's a bit of a pompous dude, when pointing out mistakes he does it in a "damn, you suck" sort of way rather than a good way, I can't go every day because I'm in the army and told him this, but he still tells me you won't get anywhere coming three times a week.
Brother im in a similar situation as u are and there comes a few times in ur life where u gotta say you know why I gotta look after myself before anyone else. If you wanna be a better boxer then do whats best to acheive that goal hopefully your freind will understand and if he doesnt then maybe hes not a good freind.
Lol if you can't get good going only 3 times a week, I'm screwed! I'm in college and working, and my gym is 45 min away. I can only make it there 1-2 times a week, sometimes not at all.
if he is telling you that you wont get anywhere going three times a week he is wrong. id go to the other gym with the better coach and try to make time for strenght training and extra training on the weekends or whenever possible if i where you.
My point is that with my pal, we ALWAYS have a great session, breaking PRs (personal records), and really progressing, but then again that's fairly straightforward with weights. Tongiht I'm going to this other geezer, the training is 730-930pm, so I'm eating a small bowl of chicken and pasta now at around 630, see how that goes, will report back tonight. Post workout, since it's too late for a big meal, will have whey and a couple of bananas. See how that goes.
