It's not a trade off, it's the side effect of the huge weight jump and adding bulk to help with absorbing shots.

He'd be outweighed on fight night by close to 20 pound if he went in around 160.

Sure but he doesn't have to enter the ring 20 pounds apart

I guess my point is he needs to figure out a fine balance to get clens respect whilst maintaining any kind of speed advantage

    Easier said than done though

Much easier said than done. And the weight disparity is why many think TC has no shot. I think he has a chance to win, just not a good one at all

The big weight disparity is a complete myth. People are acting like Crawford is fighting Benavidez not Clenelo

Crawford was coming in as high as 157 nine years ago and he he weighed a lean 169.8lbs in the ring in his last fight. That's more than what career 160 GGG weighed vs Proksa and Rosado and 2 ounces less than GGG's very consistent fight night weight

Clenelo in his own words comes in at 178-180, Crawford is clearly bigger now whilst still being lean. If there is a weight disparity it will likely not be by much at all

Difference is, if they weigh in close to the same on fight night (like near 180), one will look like he's in top shape, one will look softer.

    This is Crawford weighing 169.8lbs

To add context, 170 was career 160 GGG's very consistent fight night weight and Crawford weighed slightly more than Madrimov did

He's still very lean whilst weighing that much. Clenelo has come up from the lower weights too and he said 178-180 is his fight night weight. Even if Crawford comes in at 175 he's still going to be lean and not soft. His coach said the other day that he should've moved up to 168 long ago and Crawford also said this is the first camp where he doesn't have to cut muscle

We'll just have to see come fight night. I hope to be proven wrong and TC looks like he belongs in that weight class.

I'm not saying that Crawford's a natural SMW but he's always been a big guy who walks around heavy and rehydrates a lot of weight in every weight class he's fought in and the size disparity between Clenelo and him has been wildly exaggerated and it isn't near what many believe it is.

This is not Floyd or Khan vs Clenelo nor even close. I suspect at worst it will be 5lbs and Crawford has a much longer reach and he has a lot more left than Clenelo who hasn't stopped anyone in 4 years despite cherrypicking like crazy and most of those cherrypicks being stopped by other fighters recently who are not elite

What’s your prediction for this fight. I am probably more of a Canelo fan but I think Crawford will win because he is the more complete more skilled boxer puncher.

Crawford on points. If Clenelo was the force of old and was able to pull the trigger like he used to and get people out of there it might be different

I don't know if Crawford is necessarily the more skilled of the two. I think Clenelo is the slicker fighter with better defence. Crawford's defence has a lot to do with range and those long arms of his whereas Clenelo's is more skill based

Yes Crawford is extremely athletic and as you know that can be a real problem when backed up by solid fundamentals. I think Canelo’s slower feet will be a problem for him in this fight. Another thing being overlooked is how physically strong Crawford is and people might be shocked that Canelo cannot bully him.

I'm going with Canelo via clear UD or even late rounds TKO

Walking around weight doesn't really matter to me. Hatton ballooned up to 180 between fights. He sure wasn't fit for SprMW or LtHW.,
