Crawford vs Canelo prediction thread.

I'll just leave this here, my post about this fight back in january.

Though I have much more confidence in Bud right now than before, taking him by close decision.

Canelo looked like a monster during his undisputed run at 168. But a mediocre fighter like Caleb Plant was able to give him some problems boxing from the range, took Canelo 11 relatively competitive rounds to get rid of him.

Took him 8 rounds to find the target against Saunders who was very much in the fight until he got caught with the uppercut. Saunders is a slick southpaw, but he's an inferior athlete to Crawford and doesn't have 1/10 of his dedication or focus on top of a shorter reach.

And after his loss to Bivol, he's looked more and more beatable in each fight. He couldn't put a dent on a 40 year old, almost retired GGG. Jermell Charlo who never fought at 168 took him 12. Charlo is bigger than Crawford but has a shorter reach and vastly inferior skillset. In fact, he was probably the one who benefited from Spence ducking of Bud as had Crawford gotten the Spence fight in 2019, he'd have moved up to 154 afterwards and Charlo would've never become undistuped and never gotten the Canelo payday.

We saw what happened to Munguia after he took Canelo 12. And he couldn't even get rid of a glorified club fighter like Berlanga, so Canelo is clearly on the decline.

Crawford is older than Canelo and he's probably on the decline too. But he has all the tools that troubled Canelo in the past. He has a heavy jab like GGG when he fights southpaw, obviously not enough to push him back but maybe enough to disrupt his rhythm. He can use his legs very efficiently like Floyd and Lara, he also has the variety to keep giving Canelo different looks. And considering Canelo has become a basic(but very good) aggresive counter puncher with a low output lately, he won't be hard to figure out for Bud.

I'm not saying I'd favour Crawford, Canelo winning by stoppage is still the most likely outcome. But maybe Bud grabbing a razor thin decision(I expect the judges to be fair in a Riyadh season event) isn't beyond the realm of possibilities.

From this perspective I agree with you. Not so much because neither of them shone in their last fight (Canelo less so than Crawford in my opinion), but because ever since the fight was announced, it seemed forced to me, a match made only because two big names will bring in a lot of money, with complete disregard for the fact that a super middleweight will face off against a boxer who, in his last fight, fought for the first time as a super welterweight and will now jump up two weight classes to fight at super middleweight (which is why I say weight classes exist for a reason).

I think the fights for both of them were more logical and natural. At super middleweight there are three contenders who deserve a title shot, Mbilli, Pacheco, and Iglesias (the Cuban is my favorite of the three), and it would have been interesting to see one of them against Canelo (instead, there's already talk of Eubank Jr. after Crawford....). While Crawford also had several interesting options, such as Murtazaliev, Ortiz Jr., and Ennis (who recently announced his move to super welterweight), I'm not exactly excited about Canelo vs. Crawford, I was more interested in Benavidez vs. Morrell.

Eubank Jr or maybe Sharaz afterwards for Canelo.
Definitely not Benavidez!

I think Crawford retires after Canelo.

I think Crawford can do a number on this version of Canelo.

Canelo feet are getting slower, and he struggles to cut off the ring..

Crawford just needs to stay off the ropes and keep circling..

Vs Eroll Crawford done some nice covering up with gloves as a face guard and used a strong jab he will need that jab here too .. small details Crawford has to fight a perfect fight..
