Crawford is a fantastic fighter, but he is no Pep, Whitaker or Floyd. He doesn't win fights byt just being elusive and scoring, his punches have to have effect. Canelo is three weight classes bigger and has a concrete chin. He'd just walk through the counters that put Spence down and come back with power that Crawford can't deal with. Canelo should fight the winner Benavidez-Andrade next. And then either Bivol or Beterbiev. There are no other interesting fights out there.
Crawford has much better skills but ultimately is too small to beat Canelo. You never know what will happen until they fight but there are weight classes for a reason.
Looking at your sentence about comparing the power from Golovkin & Kovalev makes real sense but on the other hand both Kovalev & GGG didn't really land hard snapping power punches especially round after round like that on Canelo due to his great defense where as i feel unlike Charlo Crawford will actually go for the full gusto many times.
This is true, It was those studding power snaps while coming forward guard that Canelo applied that reverted many peoples minds back again.
They may not have landed hard power punches but they were feared punchers in the game with Kovalev a weight class above, even their ordinary punch would pack more power than a career 140/147 guy like Crawford's People mention guys like Duran but Duran moved up gradually over time & we know even then his KO ratio dropped off steeply compared to his LW days. It is not like 1 fine day at 37 Duran woke up as a LW & all of a sudden decided "right now, I will jump all the way up & fight Hagler & Barkley" A more apt comparison is Armstrong who held 3 at once & came close to winning a 4th but Bud is no Armstrong Kavaliauskas dropped him, imagine Canelo landing a bomb, its lights out for Bud even if he was ahead 11-0 & for the reasons mentioned I don't think Canelo will have any respect for Crawford's punches, he can very well just decide to eat the punches to land his own bombs. 12 rounds is a long time to keep away from him & Canelo may have slowed down/not throwing many combos these days but he still has the ability to cut off the ring very well
True although when it came to Kovalev he just wasn't putting any power or force behind his punches that night & I don't remember him ever trying to put through combinations or any massive punch in order to knock out Canelo & by then Kov just wasn't that guy anymore, Golovkin always got gunshy with Canelo in all three of their fights as he only did real well against guys who wouldn't ever push back enough & could take what he gave, all the telling power punches in their trilogy for the most part came from Canelo, The Crawford fight would still be intriguing especially compared to both Charlo & Plant fights, the only one better would be either A Benavidez or even Andrade fight at this point.
Also look at Crawford's interviews, 3 years ago he point blank said Canelo was too big for him Hell even after the Spence fight, he initially said the same thing before changing his tune He is near the end of his career & is looking for the big payday now because he never managed to become the star. For a fight billed as this generation's Mayweather-Pacquiao, the fight with Spence did decent PPV numbers but nothing to write home about. The 1 time before Arum put him on PPV, he managed to get himself booed by the fans against Postol because he didn't try to finish him even though Postol was totally outclassed. Instead he spent the last few rounds taunting Postol & looking "slick" (casual fans are not paying PPV money to see that sh*t, they generally want to see a KO & the KO should come in an exciting style not jab jab jab jab, hug hug hug, & then KO) From Canelo's viewpoint too this fight makes little sense, he has managed to make enough money to set his family up for generations to come, even if he puts Bud to sleep he will get 0 credit for it, & Bud is not a star to begin with, so he will be carrying the PPV on his name again for the most part
Crawford is struggling making that weight. i'm pretty sure he walks around 160, 162 so I don't see big problems for him making 168. He might outbox Canelo, since Canelo hasn't improved A BIT since Mayweather fight... i've rewatched that fight a few times and Canelo is not that big deal, he hits hard but with guys who move, feint and counterpunch very fast he might have huge problems since he is not Floyd to make adjustments while fighting. My money goes on Crawford and I pray for this to happen'
If he's around at 160-162. That's him out of shape, not fighting shape. Sure he can make 168. But one has to do that properly, and be IN SHAPE at 168. That requires adding some bulk, some muscle. Not to mention being comfortable at that new weight.
