True it's not his fault, it's just the state of the game. That's why I get so frustrated because these top guys just don't fight enough, therefore they're not as good and don't grow and improve. So when Crawford or Spence beat these guys it's not all that impressive imo. Their respective wins weren't over any HOF fighters, let alone over true ATGs.
Bud has 2 fight deal with PBC, if he defeats Spence they will make him fight Thurman or someone like that right after. Noway Haymon let him take out another one of his champs without first having a contract.
Ricky Burns was rated #4 when Crawford beat him, check for yourself: https://www.ringtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Feb-2014.pdf Ray Bertran (who he won the Ring title from) was rated #3: https://www.ringtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Oct-2014.pdf Porter was rated #5 when Crawford beat him while Jeff Horn wasn't rated in the top 5 when Crawford beat him. He definitely hasn't "fought the top 2/3 guys in every division", in fact, the only division where he has fought more than 1 top 3 guy is 140. He hasn't even fought a top 3 guy at welter.
Yeah he beat Burns to get his own number 1 rating. At that point the highest ranked fighter he could face was Beltrán who he beat. So thanks for clarifying that one. At LWW he beat the top 2 guys back to back. At WW he's beaten Porter and is fighting Spence who's ranked number 1. Who could he fight at WW better than Spence right now? No one. In all 3 divisions he's, at some point, fought the highest ranked fighter. How many can say that today? Canelo, Inoue and that's it I think.
I'm not denying that he fought the best opponent he could in each division (well, will soon, as long as Spence goes forward). Just that he fought the 2/3 best opponents he could have fought in each division.
Well at LW he was one of the top 2 and fought the other, at LWW he fought the top 2, at WW he's one of the top 2 and is fighting the other. So I didn't need to include the number 3, could have kept it at top 2.
There actually aren't that many fighters who have a win over an prime elite opponent. Who did ODLH beat; who did Trinidad beat, other than nicking a disputed decision over ODLH? Vargas very good but not on Spence's level. Again, *if* Crawford gets an emphatic win over Spence then he's unquestionably an ATG. I don't think he's one yet despite a lot of accomplishments, simply because his opposition has been too weak. But this fight will change that; it's very rare that you get a bout between two top 5 PfP fighters at the same stage of their career. Mayweather/Pacquiao was one, but they were both on the slide and it always was going to be a bad fight based on styles.
He didn't fight the top two opponents at LW, Ricky Burns was #4, with three others ahead of him. He did beat the second best opponent he could have in Bertrand. Crawford was #2 and Bertrand was #3 when they fought at LW. I accidentally posted that Bertrand was #2, that's totally my bad, it was an error.
I'm a Spence fan but he's had one fight in almost 3 years and his best win is probably Porter, that's hardly ATG making material.
He could do it, but that would actually require Jermell getting inside the ring which likely will be harder than the actual fight.
