I've read a little on (Y)Ip Man. Then before Ip Man, Chan Wah-Shun, before him Leung Jan, and that's really where the history ends as far as actual facts and whatnot goes. 420's MMA board talked a little about Wing Chun. It looks like it'll work, but I just think stuff like this has evolved. Mixed Martial Arts has taken things from different martial arts and put it all together to serve someone fighting in a cage or a ring for a period of time with a certain amount of rules, Wing Chun and JKD aren't based around that so that's where it falls I reckon. Interesting stuff though.
My man right here might be just as fast or faster than Tommy Carruthers [yt]KG_-2vI6OyA[/yt] True that many of these movements are opened handed and that a boxing glove would also slow both men down a bit, but I'm betting their natural handsped would translate into the ring. Handspeed is a very natural physical talent same as punching power. If you have it then you have it probably regardless of the style of fighting.
All these vids, Jane Kwon Do and all that, reminds me of Rex Kwon Do. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh10UVpfpy0[/ame] Thing is, it's so deadly, that's why you don't see it in the octagon. It just would destroy everything... It's the same thing with all the great martial artists: Jean-Claude Van Dame, Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee, Jet Li, that ninja from GIJoe, Rocky, etc., these guys are a league above all the guys fighting in MMA, or boxing. Jean Claude Van Dame beat like 10 guys one after the other, one of each the best discipline of every continent, speed, technique, everything is a step above what you see in the octogon or in a boxing ring. These guys have techniques you can't even imagine. That's why they don't even bother, but if they would, they would just destroy everything... Punches so fast the eye can't see them, dodging so great can't even be hit by a bullet... Fuhgetaboutit!
Wow, that guy name Sifu is something... Imagine, in a boxing match, he gets the guy in a corner, and beats on him non stop like that for 3 minutes! That's like, at least, 5000 punches in a round... So that guy is ground beef! Not to mention any one of those could potentially kill you... Also, you have to look at this vid where they just don't block punches, they also counter-attack AT THE SAME TIME. Something unheard of in boxing. (actually demonstrated better in other wing chun vids but nevermind...) Checkit: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7gFbUc2-d8[/ame] Even with the eyes closed, he nearly killed a guy... So with his eyes opened, in a boxing ring... Can you even imagine? Martial Arts >>> boxing. Boxing punches have NOTHING on Wing Chun. Sorry to say but it's just fact... You ever seen a boxer beat like 50 guys at once? No one boxer could ever stand up to martial arts like this: simply fact. Even in MMA... You think Jet would have any issue with one big american guy? Hahaha... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYLv-2RHJN4[/ame] (Maybe the best fighting scene ever!! )
It looks good, but I would like to see him dig into a heavy bag and keep it flashy like that. I hate it when MAs do demonstrations against opponents that are standing there like logs or flopping for them. One reason why I respect BJJ and Boxing. They will invite any clown to get choked out if he doesn't "believe" it. Boxing, well I dare anyone to walk into a gym and claim bad ass. I ain't saying this guy isn't the goods, but I would love to see him go light contact against a decently skilled opponent.
A lot of these kung fu guys won't bring it though. Some have tried in the Early UFC, and were exposed. I am sure there are talented Kung Fu "practioners" out there, but how many kung fu "fighters"? It's easy to look good against a guy standing there doing nothing, but the rules of the game changes when the opponent is fighting back, hard! you need the ability to adjust, as you cannot just apply the skills from the text book and go through the motions. You need to be able to read your opponent, be 2 moves ahead of him and takes some doing. Different ball game when you are in the ring. For all the flash, which looks impressive, there needs to be a warrior within, regardless of style, and that's what seperates the fighter from a practitioner.
I don't think Lee's style is fit for the Octogon. He clearly punched one guy in the nuts and kicked the other while he was down, both of which are illegal under MMA rules.
Whenever I seen these martial artists try use their **** in a real fight they get the **** kicked out of them. I mean check this ****ing puppet out [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEDaCIDvj6I[/ame]
