I have always loved boxing since I was very young. However, I have a huge problem following it, There are so many belts and orgs, I don't know who is who, and what are all the wieght classes?

I think MMA had its sudden burst in popularity because its so simplified and for someone to just start to watch boxing its really hard to follow.

Can anyone help me out here and explain this all to me and tell me who are the champs of what?

    Thanks.

You might as well start here if you want to start knowing the best fighters in the world. The Ring's ratings may not be perfect, but they are a great indication of who the best fighters in the world and in every division are. It does get confusing, but this might help.

Welcome to the boxing world, nice to have you. It can get quite confusing, but a general thing to remember is that the WBC, IBF, WBA, and sometimes WBO champions are considered the most important belts. However, it is best to follow who the "linear" champion is more then who has what belt. There are various ways to figure this out, including the Ring ratings. If you have anymore direct questions I would be happy to try to help you out.

ESB's a great place to start. I consider myself just a fan of the sport and not an expert by any means so I let all the back and forth arguing go on without getting in the way too much. But picking a great fighter and following him you pick up all the great fighters along the way. Then you look into their fights and it spreads out from there. Don't worry to much about all the belts and resumes and rankings, it'll just get in the way of truly enjoying the sport. The Cotto/Margarito fight coming up is gonna probably be right up your alley.
