Thomas Hearns with Haglers chin, Armstrongs stamina and Benitez's ability to see punches.

I too like Hearns as a basic blueprint, with a few modifications as you have highlighted here JT1.

Another modification would be a sturdier (thicker) midsection...:D

Hahaha, fair enough mate. I always thought his ability to take a body punch (or non ability) was a bit exaggerated. Truth be told i'm not convinced Ray's body attack in fight 1 was as much a defining factor as the media made out.

For the last time, Bill, it doesn't work like that. I'll give you an example; a fighter cannot possess the uppercut of Tyson and the cross of Hearns. Tyson's uppercut was so good because he had short, powerful arms and a low centre of gravity that allowed him to generate great torque and momentum through his hips. A fighter of Hearns' stature wouldn't just be able to pull a Tyson uppercut out of the bag, it would have to be of a different kind. Just like Tyson wouldn't be able to produce the long-armed leverage of Hearns. Further, can you really imagine a fighter having the mentality of Gatti but getting on his bike and jabbing like an Ali-Holmes hybrid? While somehow working just as hard as Armstrong? It's a ridiculous concept. Your fighter would look like Krusty the Klown.

Its only fun and fantasy, so he rates the best fighter in each selected category, thus creating a perfect fighter. I'm sure everyone with half a brain can see someone with Ali's boxing ability and Gatti's mentality doesn't quite add up.

His thread heading doesn't add up to his own awnsers in the first post. What he really means is select the best fighter in each category, as this is backed up with his own awnser. Stamina, right hand, footwork, heart, jab, etc.

Yes, it is best to change the title to 'best fighters in these categories...'

Id like to see this fighter being created. He'd have adjustable arms and height. He'd change from 5' 5" up to 6' 1" between rounds. Change of technique in a matter of seconds. Suddenly crude wide hooks like Marciano, then within the blink of an eye straight punches down the middle resembling Ali.

Joe Calzaghe, except with Bernard Hopkins' heart, boxing skill, power, speed, reflexes, athleticism, body, and name -fullstop-

I always thought Roberto Duran had the best style (at his best), going forward at his opponent and being so defensively sound while doing so. He'd weave and duck shots, while landing uppercuts and hooks all the while. James Toney and others could stand in front of a guy and not get hit, using angles and ringcraft, but Duran was landing counters at the same time which could finish the fight, the best blend of offense and defense I've ever seen. And he never wound up his shots or telegraph them, he'd just slip in with a right cross with max power in it.

I f we're gonna do this in the format set here though, I think:

    hand speed - Ali
    power - trinidad/tyson
    work rate - pryor/armstrong
    strength - chavez
    chin - lamotta/mcullough
    stamina - pryor
footwork - robinson / benny leonard
    defense - pep
heart - too hard to pick! but, gatti
    reflexes - benitez

    punches :

    jab - Holmes
    right cross - hearns
    left hook - frazier
    uppercut - tyson
    right hook - dempsey

Let me know what ypu think

Roy Jones with the chin of Hagler, and heart of Frazier. And this is coming from someone who is a critic of Jones (though I'm a big fan outside ESB).

Right, and what's more, you can't have Toney/Whitakers defence with Hearns' punching power. Anyone who thinks that's possible doesn't understand boxing.
