Okay, here it is, a challenge for all of the Ali worshippers: it's an essay question....How did Alfredo Evangelista manage to go 15 rounds with the absolutely indestructible, invincible Ali? We all know that Ken Norton, George Foreman, and Joe Frazier would have flattened Evangelista in about three rounds each. And certainly Alfredo never would have lasted 15 against Lewis, Tyson, the K brothers, Bowe, or Holyfield. So, how did he last against Ali? Was it because of Ali's exile....eight years earlier? Was it because Ali didn't train? Was it Tunney Hunsaker's body shots finally taking their toll? Come on... be creative! Feel free to use as much poetic license as you want: maybe Evangelista's gloves were loaded, or maybe he could shoot lasers from his nostrils, or perhaps Ali had been told to carry him by Blinky Palermo. I mean, there has to be a reason, right? Have fun, guys! And don't forget......Ali Forever!
Ah c'mon, is this a sincere question? Firstly, Ali was a full decade post-exile, not 8 years. It was May 1977. Ali was at his peak 10-11 years ago. In Manilla both fighters were reduced from their peak, but Ali was still an ATG. After that it is common knowledge that the toll, age, & Parkinson's had him declining each year. He still won a UD. Frazier was 2 years tounger & retired, he could not then be counbted on to flatten anybody. Foreman famously unraveled in '77, though young & should have been at his absolute peak. Some mindlessly worship various greats, But no reason to wonder why this fight went the distance, there seems to be bias in the other direction here.
Ali was really passed it by this point in his career. A couple of years earlier would have seen him stop Evangelista easily
Ali entered that fight looking like he hadn't trained a day for it and was past his prime to the point of being near washed up. Not something I'd read too much into.
This **** has no intention of starting a genuine thread. Hes a troll, please ignore. He asked me the same question about Ali vs Berbick a while back and dismissed all responses. In fact this **** can join my ignore list
Not really. But when I hear that someone uses the Trevor Berbick fight to slander Ali, then that's about all I need to say goodbye forever.
ok maybe i was a bit harsh, but this isn't the first time hes done something like this, he actually wanted an essay from me for how/why berbick beat Ali and then told me id better not mention parkinsons and that he wanted GENUINE reasons and not stuff 'ali worshippers' just made up
I don't "knowingly" respond to posters who are clearly trying to stir the pot and the more of them we ignore the cleaner this place will be.
A ridiculous thread. Ali ( or more likely his entourage) were trying to eke out more money when he's clearly washed up.
