I don't hold Khan responsible for his padded record, or the hype that he has been recieving. He has only said in interviews what any aspiring champion would say; that he is going to go on to beat everybody, and look great doing it. He ran into a big puncher last night, and Amir just doesn't have the punch resistance to be taking any sort of clean shot from any elite level fighters. The Khan camp may come out and say Prescott is world class, but even that isn't proven yet. Anyhow, credit to Amir Khan for the way he has been speaking in the media since his defeat. If that had been me, I would have been so unbelievably devastated and embarrassed, I would have ducked and dived the camera's at every opportunity. He doesn't even look phased by the defeat in his interviews, and he's even been conducting more interviews at his Boxing Gym this morning. He is either really strong mentally or he is putting on a big front for the cameras - either way, he's not lost his dignity. I wish the guy goodluck in the future. I believe his dreams to be at world level some day to be completely over, but there is no reason why he cannot campaign at domestic and european level.
I'm sure it would be more competitive than a rematch with Prescott, so what other options does a fight in his position have?
yes. im a big khan hater so im very happy to see him get iced, however, everybodys going on like he's the most beatable fighter in the world,i even read somebody said they wouldnt fancy his chances in a gomez rematchatsch .he does have very poor punch resistance so the most obvious thing to improve is his defence.he does have alot of good attributes too,i cant think of a fighter at his level with his sspeed. just need to wait for a subpar champion to come along, with no power.at lightweight that aint gonna happen.david diaz would have done nicely or paulie at lww.
I think Khan would struggle with Thaxton. Other than Gomez and Prescott, he has only fought upright, feather fisted lighter guys - Gomez was a pressure fighter, who in his prime circa 2002 would have jumped in and finished Khan off. Prescott is a long armed puncher who destroyed him. Thaxton is a switch hitting boxer puncher with one punch KO power - the only issue would be his tendency to have a slow start. If Jon got out of the blocks in the first round I see him standing Khan on his head in a similar way to what Herol Graham was doing to Julian Jackson, but the difference would be that Thaxton would get the W.
Khan should change trainers again and maybe go to somebody who has a proven track record with quick fighters such as the INGLE camp? they done well with Naz and Junior witter. Or maybe even turn to roger mayweather? One things for sure, he needs to tighten that defence up and learn to fight on the backfoot and to use his speed. You never rush in with a proven puncher and try to trade with him when you have already been exposed of having a bit of a suspect chin! That was stupid from Khan.
khan is obviously a talented boxer, no doubt and his tactics were all wrong last night, he went looking for the quick win, he left himself open to counters big time, a big mistake taking this approach with a guy of prescotts punching power. his chin is a huge problem, as mentioned already all the training in the world wont make his chin stronger. i find it hard to see if he can make it on the world stage, time will tell, he needs expert coaching from an expert trainer to deal with the defence problems and at 21 he is still a baby in the sport.
