Regardless of what you think of the stoppage, John Murray boxed superbly last night. His footwork was excellent, allowing him to be in position to land hard left hook leads. He also countered well, making Thaxton pay for wild lunges, especially with that last right hand.

Murray looked lean, mean, solid and mature. He's beyond doubt British #1, but is not going to meet his match at British level.

He had wanted Thaxton for so long, and you could see the amount of planning and research that he and his team had done.

I would love to see him fight Yuri Romanov, then Katsidis. What great fights those would be.

Also, with him being European mandatory - after 4 stoppage wins over top 10 EBU ranked contenders - I think he should get a shot at Mezaache, an easier fight.

A shame for Jon Thaxton, etc etc - but I sincerely doubt he "was going to get him [Murray] late - and this is the John Murray show, not the Thaxton show. Let the show roll on, and let the whining stop.

I was also impressed. It was a great technical performance and, if he continues to box like that (i.e. sensibly), he may just get beyond the Euro scene. Let's not kid ourselves, though- 135 is one of the most stacked divisions out there. He has proven beyond a doubt that he is the best in the country now, although few thought otherwise anyway.

Yeah, credit to Murray. Waiting for Thaxton to have nothing left before fighting him was a good idea.

i think Romanov would box his ears off, but then there'd be no shame in that as an active Romanov is world class.

katsidis he has a chance with, but murray seems a little shot shy at times. when you walk people down like he does, you've got to let your shots go when you get in range, and he's a bit hesitant at times, especially early on, and seems to be waiting for the perfect opening too much, which i dont think he really can afford to do. Murray is a decent puncher but he's certainly not a knock out artist, and needs to be landing as many punches as he can when he gets in range.

I think he's good enough to beat Romanov. Ask yourself this would he have beaten a peak Grahm Earl. I'd say 100% yes and the thing is we've not seen the best of him yet. He seems to have way more in the tank. I was impressed with him. He looks potential world class to me.

I tell you what, comments like that should be left in people's heads, and not said. They fought now, and were not likely to fight each other until Thaxton lost his euro title.
Why can't we just be happy for one of our own, who may make it on the world scene?
It is not Murray's fault his is a victim of not being born earlier

Murray is ready for his shot at world title, no question about it. He has had 28 fights now and proved himself.
