All right guys, now we know he's got a unification bout coming up with Alexander Munoz and all logic points to where he should have a pretty dominative, impressive victory in unifying the WBA+WBC 115 pound titles. Many people have him Top 15 P4P right now, not the Ring magazine, who gives no credit to lower weight fighters, but sensible people have him around that general area. Right now I have him at #10 in my list, I think that's warranted, but anywhere from 10-15 is suitable depending on your criteria and how you judge victories. A win over Munoz, dominative, will secure his spot for me from number's 8-10 in undisputed concrete form, he won't be able to be moved unless someone else around the top 15 range does something better. There are two fights looming after that, one would be a showdown against 112 titlist Nonito Donaire, the other would be against 115 pound veteran, P4P top 15 Fernando Montiel. What does a Donaire win do for you, dominative and close? What does a Montiel win do for you, dominative and close, in regards to his P4P standing on your list, with your personal criteria? Let's have a serious discussion, we'll refrain from the silly antics that we use to promote him, even though it's worked out just beautifully.:yep :good
What it does for me no matter the results? Is SALUTE!! A fighter seeking to prove his mettle is all we can ask for. I'll admit I havent seen a ton of Mijares and what I saw? Well didnt make me feel he's as high as you believe he is. However out of respect for you're opinion? I'm gonna try and be open minded as I see more of Mijares. In any event? If he walks the path you lay out? He's a hell of a man/fighter and if it pans out? Another notch in you're belt:good A win for Donaire would be equally as impressive for him, barring any unforseen BS decision or issues.
A win over Montiel would be huge. That the only fighter in the division who poses a threat to Mijares. He could really bother him with that power and he has good timing. Mijares would be the favorite but what he did to Castillo, even a fading Castillo was impressive. That would put him around #8 for me if he is dominant. #12 if it is close. Donaire is another big win. Even though he is the smaller fighter he times very well has good power and a lot of momentum with some great wins recently. Just about as big a win as Montiel. If he dominates both then he is about #4-5 p4p for me. If he wins close, tough battles against both he would still be top 10 but probally around #8. Right now he is top 20 but does not quite get into the top 15 based on accomplishments.
I love Mijares and think he's a great fighter, but what exactly has he done to make it into the top 15 P4P? How many top-10 fighters in his weight class has he beaten? Two? And how does he explain away a recent draw against a guy who got completely dominated by Darchinyan and Nonito? Unless you're basing your rankings almost purely on H2H, Mijares doesn't belong near a top 10. If he beats Munoz, you can make a much better argument, but right now, it's jumping the gun. He's an inconsistent fighter who looks otherworldly on some nights and pedestrian on others. If you don't realize that, either you haven't watched enough of him or your blinded by his win over Arce.
Donaire is a solid win, so is Munoz. Now if he beat Rafael at 118, thats ATG status for me on top of Donaire & Munoz A true p4p should be able to go up 3lb to take on fellow p4p.
you're looking at a spot somewhere in the top 5 p4p with wins over munoz, montiel and donaire. munoz is a come forward fighter. has very leaky defense and is wide open wheneverr he throws his winging shots. his stamina is decent, but tends to gas out at the end with his style. he's made for mijares.
rafael at 118 is too much. too big, too long, great boxer and hits too hard. a win over him would be crazy though. munoz, donaire, montiel + a couple of solid 118 lb'ers, like an old though still good penalosa and sidorenko makes a solid case for top the top 1/2/3 spots.
If they're all dominative, meaning winning 9 rounds or better on all of them, what could anybody say?:yep A win over Rafa is not realistic, but would be insane, P4P #1 without a doubt.
Dominant win over Munoz: I'll rank him Number 7 (behind Vazquez, JM Marquez, Cotto, Pacquiao, Calzaghe, and Mayweather)
He can't beat Marquez at 118. If he did, then we would need to investigate to make sure he was human.
Been the subject of debate for a while. But seriously, Munoz-Donaire-Montiel, where you got him? Dominative and close.
Beating all 3? Top 5 probably. By then Calzaghe would be done and gone. But I don't rate him top 10 like you do so far.
Yeah but you rate Calderon, despite Mijares having fought the better competition, which is why I have an issue with the newly Calderon bandwagoners that aren't even experienced with him at all, not saying that's you by any means. You have Calderon top 10, where you do rank Guzzy and Mijares?
I don't yet. And Calderon is unbeaten. Mijares losses and close fights count against him. You base competition on how you rate the figthers and not on the results of their fights, which is bit too subjective for me. As for Guzman, he is sometimes in and sometimes out.
How so? Its 3lb and their the same height. Pac came up to 126 to demolish fellow p4p MAB. Shane came up to WW to beat fellow p4p Shane. Duran came up to WW to beat fellow p4p SRL. All of whom are greater fighters than Rafael with bigger jumps in weight yet great p4p Mijares cant go up 3lb to take on a TRUE p4p? Lets face it, Donaire is not top 10 p4p.
