I had previously viewed the Arce and Navarro fights and came away very impressed with each of them. However, this one with Munoz absolutely blew me away.

First of all, the idea that anyone could score more than 2-3 rounds for Munoz seems absurd. The only one that I felt secure in giving to him was the 7th. Mijares deserved an 11-1 or 10-2 decision. When you factor in the point deduction levied against Munoz, a split decision is preposterous.

Second, the defensive ability of Mijares is unbelievable. Guys like Mayweather and Wright are rightly noted for their defensive prowess and Mijares belongs right in that discussion. His head movement is a thing of absolute beauty. Not only that, but he is so light on his feet and can quickly turn his man around and be right out of trouble. Absolutely brilliant!

Third, even though he lacks elite power, his hand speed, precision, and timing make up for it. Both working off the jab and occasionally throwing the lead left hand evidence him being a terrific boxer-puncher. During the 8-10 stretch where it looked like he might knock out Munoz, the right upper cut was also a marvel to witness.

Really, when I think about it, this brings him to a whole 'nother level for me. The Navarro fight, like I said, was very good, but not quite as transcendent as he looked against Arce. This is that kind of performance against a much better fighter. I have trouble ranking even a handful of fighters above him in P4P H2H matchups.

Spot on, I agree with everything you said:good. Another aspect of Mijares' defence that you didn't mention is his insane ability to roll with punches. People who mention how he supposedly gets hit alot, also fail to mention how well he moves with the punch and takes away their force.

It is very rare to see Mijares get hit with a shot that isn't partially deflected/blocked or rolled with.

You're right about that. It really seems like he has every method and trick required to frustrate his opponent's advances. I sincerely hope that DiBella and Huizar can get him into the ring with Montiel or Donaire before too long. Both of those, especially the former, are super fights and would make spectacular co-features to a PPV broadcast.

Munoz landed an odd shot here and there, but otherwise missed an immense amount, that's Whitaker style **** right there, just a notch down from Pea and his comp of course.

If they watched the fight on TV, they'd see Munoz missed at an inch or two many times, not landing at all.

It was absurd how much Mijares made Munoz miss considering the workrate thrown and how often he stays within punching range, other types of defence specialists, such as Calderon, keep out of range and the workrate to a minimum, I find these types more boring than Mijares.

Yeah, I love how calm he always is too. He clearly enjoys being in the ring and he's one of the most confident fighters out there. I watched the Munoz performance back today and I wish more boxing fans got to see it (it could have been on HBO/Showtime instead of PPV).. one of the best performances of this year. And after fighting for 12 rounds, Mijares looked like he was ready to fight another 12.

Even though he probably could get more exposure in America if he would have gone with Top Rank or Golden Boy, I think that his signing with DiBella means that it's very likely that he'll be co-featuring on Jermain Taylor's next fight. I don't think HBO is quite ready to get off that train.

In an odd way, it might be in Mijares' best interest for Taylor to get a big win so that he remains relevant enough to headline HBO cards. If he does, we're likely to see more of Cristian.
