Munoz is a very vulnerable champion, and I think though he has improved, the Martin Castillo fights are reflective of his general ability as a fighter. He gets by on his workrate mostly and he fades in his three most recent fights. Mijares is going to stop him in under ten rounds.

Cristian Mijares
Cristian will have to move and utilize his superior jab and range in order to outmanouver the slower Munoz. He will do his usual routine of peppering the opponent as they attempt to work there way inside and avoid laying on the ropes.

Mix body punches in with his quick combos to slow Munoz down further and attempt to not get drawn into a close-quarters battle. He must especially use his superior footspeed in order to make Munoz miss and set up counter-oppurtunities with the straight left and right hook.

Alexander Munoz
Due to his severe disadvantage on the outside, Munoz will have to lay the pressure on and attempt to get Cristian fighting in close. He should try to land his own jab over Mijares's in order to get an easier path in close and disrupt Cristian's rythm.

On the inside he will want to invest in body punches in order to slow Mijares down and get the advantage. In keeping the fight up-close he will be able to negate Cristian's range and jab aswell as land his own hard punches. Pinning and keeping Mijares on the ropes will also be vital
in securring the win.

He also has a chance of a 1 punch KO.

How do you think this fight will play out?

Mijares will control the bout with his superior footwork and jab. He will be able to keep Munoz at bay with the right jab due to his reach and timing advantage. Cristian will use alot of lateral movement in this fight in order to make Munoz miss and set up counter oppurtunities.

Alexander Munoz's lack of defence will alow Mijares to pepper him with combinations from the outside and take full advantage of his superior skill set. Due to Cristian's habit of fighting up close at times, Munoz may be able to land some big shots, but he will still be tagged himself due to Mijares's high workrate. Mijares's head movement and ability to roll with punches should allow him to avoid the 1-punch KO up close.

After tasting a bit of Munoz's power, Mijares will avoid fighting in-close and will instead stay on the outside. There he will remain for most of the fight as he piles up points with the jab and combos. Although Munoz may have his moments when his pressure allows him to land a few shots, it will not be enough to win the fight.

Very, very nice analysis, jaco! Some real gems of insight there!

I agree that Mijares is faster and his defence is good enough to avoid Munoz' punches. Munoz might be more dangerous than Navarro because he has a better punch, but he is much less technical and precise, I think. I have two worries - how long will Munoz manage to draw Mijares in a brawl and how often? Munoz has a good chin, perhaps better than Mijares and more of a punch too, even if it's a much less precise punch. As you say, he could indeed put Mijares down - and secondly, when Mijares, in a brawl, keeps his hands around his chin, without moving his head much, Munoz will use his uppercut to great effect. We both know Mijares takes some time off in rounds, where he just stands there, trading and Munoz can be dangerous here. Uppercut to make Mijares keep his hands even further down around his chin, hooks to the upper head to hurt him, followed by bodyshots and more of the same. Mijares' own bodyshots might not be as effective. I hope Mijares comes in very good shape so that he can box for 12 rounds and trade as little as possible. No? I agree with your prediction. Munoz is more dangerous that Navarro, but it should be an easier fight for Mijares, I think.

The other rounds were very close and could have been scored either way, I thought. I would give most of them to Mijares, but they were close!! Or perhaps Mijares is not invincible??? Personally, i thought it was an entertaining fight, with some close rounds, although overall a decisive win for Mijares. I don't think Mijares is invincible, although he is a very talented fighter. I am looking forward to this match up and seeing how he fairs against some of the actual top guys before making judgement. A match up with Nonito Donaire though would be interesting, as would a match up with Montiel!!! If he can beat these guys in convincing fashion, then i will start to really sing his praises. Until then, his greatness is still far from proven IMO.

Mijares is God, a real boxer, Munoz is a pressuring fighter, Mijares eats pressure boys alive. Munoz can only hope to draw Mijares into a machismo trading session, in which pinning him on the ropes and generally getting inside and landing some body would do it, as has been mentioned. Let me also add that drawing Mijares into a brawl doesn't necessarily favour Munoz, as Mijares is a very good inside fighter also with great speed, he could rip 3-4 shot combinations on Munoz from the inside to Munoz's 1 shot. Considering Munoz has yet to stop a top level fighter, a lucky KO is the most unlikely.

As much as you want Munoz to win, it won't happen. Fight plan's been covered 100% in this thread.:nod
