Mijares is showing off some of his old prime Diamante slickness - and finding a home for his right hook.

    Round 4

The ref deducts a point from Mijares for a headbutt. I'm not sure they even touched yet since the bell. :blood There are barely ten seconds gone off the round clock and Medrano is all the way in his own corner. Weird. Mijares is laughing about it. Mijares is picking off the Medrano left jab and slicing in with a 1-2. Medrano is waving his jab out at Mijares. A couple of right jabs by Mijares standing pat, then a quick step to his left and big sneaky left hand swung up onto Medrano's jaw. Mijares is getting pushed down upon as he ducks Medrano's jab. Double left hand on the face by Mijares, backing Medrano up. 1-2-3 by Medrano, actually scoring, gritting his teeth. Right hook by Mijares, wobbling Medrano.

9-9 (10-9 Mijares before the deduction)

    39-36 Mijares

The commentators have it 38-37 to Mijares.

They gave him the 4th (9-9 after the deduction) but gave Medrano the 2nd.

    Open scoring? :huh

    In a ten-rounder? No title?

    All three for Mijares, anyway.

I didn't start watching it til the start of round 5. But his opponent was way over-matched. But with that being said, he looked like the same extremely athletic yet extremely sloppy fighter at times. I didn't see anything different or any changes in style or technique since his butt-whoopin'. I was kind of dissapointed because I wanted to see more discipline and more control from Gamboa. But Gamboa will always be Gamboa I guess.

There was a poster here (I can't recall his name) who had a great quote about Hank Lundy and the same can be said about Gamboa (along with Linares, Broner and moe) "He has loads of talent with just enough flaws to keep a fight interesting".

    Round 5

Mijares is pushing into Medrano with his jab and falling in with a left on the body. Medrano is opening up with jabs and uppercuts, with right hands slung over the top as he backs up but torques himself around shifting his weight forward. Mijares bends in, blocking and slipping and landing body to head combos.

    10-9 Mijares

    49-45 Mijares

    Round 6

Mijares is doubling up on the left hand lead, buzzing Medrano. Mijares is knocking Medrano off-axis with his right jab, taking a bold step in with it, through Medrano's jab. Mijares is gaining confidence, walking up and whipping Medrano across the face with a right hook. Clinch. Medrano is knocked down by a jab and left hooker-cut by Mijares! His glove brushes the canvas! Not given a count! :patsch

10-9 Mijares (screw this ref, he obviously can't stand Mijares)

    59-53 Mijares

    Round 7

Mijares is swapping turns with Medrano, each dragging long hooks up from the waist, seeking the opponent's face but either hitting arm, missing, or scraping chest. Mijares is getting his right jab in faster than Medrano can pull trigger on his left, and then letting combos fly once Medrano is blinded by the jab. Spirited flurry by Medrano, but Mijares is able to see every punch coming, ducking and slipping in front of him.

    10-9 Mijares

    69-62 Mijares

How the hell did he go from fighting Crawford (Pretty much the best 135'er), to fighting Montes de Oca.

I like Gamboa but this is a fking waste of a fight. He will have his way with this guy and destroy him utterly.

    Ffs.

He's still with SMS promotions right?

    Round 8

Mijares is warned to "watch the palm". I guess the ref thought he was slapping with an open glove? Anyway... Mijares is rolling his right glove in short water-wheels at his stomach, then quickly snaking up jabs into Medrano's face. Medrano pumps in a 1-2 but Mijares counters with a left hand and right hook combo. Mijares is walking forward now, dipping under a Medrano lead right and scoring a left. Mijares is keeping his right foot just inside Medrano's left big toe, crowding in from a side angle, whipping right hooks into Medrano's face.

    10-9 Mijares

    79-71 Mijares

    I don't think so, actually.

Also - he already did, earlier.

Open scoring, Mijares still ahead on all three judges' cards.
