I wonder what was in the kool-aid to make everyone think Mijares was such a masterful boxer. He struggled with a few C level fighters earlier in his career, got tagged alot in the Munoz fight, lost the 2nd half of the fight to Navarro and yet his fans call these 2 performances masterpieces. He had one masterful fight and that was to a fading undersized Arce.
i think he was mentally ruined by darchinyan, he is still a great boxer with superb skills but he just lack that thing, he needs to get himself together
I'll have to watch his latest fight to know for sure. It's up on Youtube. I'm not at all buying the "he just wasn't that good" bandwagon. He showed that he was very clearly a highly skilled boxer who seemed to have all the poise and confidence necessary to succeed in the long run. It appeared that the confidence/poise he once exhibited turned to flat out cockiness against Darchinyan, which bit him in the ass. The guy clearly has, or had, excellent skills. That should be obvious to anyone who's seen his performances pre-Darchinyan. Again though, I'll have to check out his latest fight to see what is going on with him.
What Kool-Aid? Anyone who watched him box knew he had superb skills. Which ic completely irrelevant. That'd be like me pointing out how Pacquiao was KO'd by C level fighters earlier in his career. He didn't get tagged much against Munoz, at least not clean. He rolled and narrowly slipped those punches masterfully, which is part of the reason everyone had such high hopes for him. His boxing instincts were fantastic. Navarro won 4 rounds tops, likely only 3, and certainly didn't win the second hald of the fight. Not to mention he was a skilled, tidy technician in his own right, hardly a can.
