Good stoppage win for Arreola, his greater ring experience shone through against his limited opponent. I was glad to hear him indicate in the postfight interview that he has finally "seen the light" about the importance of doing all the hard work in training, hopefully those were not mere words he was speaking. He said he was seeking a title shot for his next fight, but my concern is that Vitali Klitschko will probably not indicate for at least another 4-5 months whether or not he plans to fight again, so if Arreola is going to sit on his #2 WBC ranking (going into tonight, the WBC had Mitchell #2 and Arreola #3) in hopes of a Stiverne rematch for a vacant belt, he might be waiting a LONG time, and even then, if Vitali DOES fight again, who knows when Arreola would get his title shot. He would do better to build on his win tonight, by taking a CALCULATED gamble against someone that poses enough threat to motivate Arreola to put the training in, and who will give him rounds when they do fight. Just throwing a name out there, someone like Kevin Johnson could be an ideal stay-busy fight for Arreola in this regard, while he waits to see how the WBC World Championship picture shakes out. For now, though, it is good that Arreola, with all the talent he has, might finally now be getting ready to show us his best yet.

To be fair though, he's probably had at least a dozen or two undiagnosed concussions in his football career and a ton of sub-concussive hits before he ever got in the ring. I'm not surprised his resistance is non-existant at this point.

Besides Mitchell's lack of ability to hold a shot, the sad part about all this is, Arreola is probably going to show up to his next fight weighing 250+ again. And that would be a real shame. :-(

Instead of waiting for Vitali to somehow vacate, Arreola should take the Wilder fight. Coming off this win over Mitchell, he has a chance to show up in shape for the Wilder fight and give it a go. He's got time, since if Vitali DOES fight again, he's due to fight Stiverne anyway (last I checked).

Sitting around waiting for Vitali to make a move is just going to give Arreola time to fall back into bad habits. History has shown that Vitali takes his own sweet time with the WBC. Arreola can fight Wilder in the meantime. He needs to stay in the gym and stay busy.
