Again, life is defined by circumstances and opportunities.

Roy's made some mistakes, but there's always a reason behind a guys actions.

Psychology makes the world go around.

    People act upon their thoughts.

And their thoughts are based on situations and circumstances.

One of Roy's biggest mistakes, was not tying into a big promoter.

But you have to understand the way Roy was raised. He was raised by big Roy, who literally controlled his life for 23 years. Roy got to the point where he was so low, he thought he'd either have to kill himself, or his own father. So when he split from him in 1992, he was finally a man. And when he didn't tie into a promoter, it was his way of saying that nobody was ever going to have control over him again. I truly believe that. So I can see why he did things his way.

That's also where his ego comes from. It all stemmed from his childhood. After he'd gotten to the top, he craved the attention, and he loved the position of power he was in, or what he thought he was in. That's why he was never going to go to Germany to fight Dariusz. He was the man, and he knew it, and he wasn't going to back down to anyone.

That's also why he wouldn't back down to Hopkins.

With regards to your points, it boils down to frustration and a lack of knowledge.

But my post was only long, because I've not really debated with you before, and I didn't know how much you knew about his career.

But I'm glad we're debating. You seem like an intelligent poster, who I can have an objective debate with.

The thing is, the OP is entirely correct.

Let's reverse the tables and turn Roy Jones into a white kid from Cardiff. No way in hell would he be considered one of the all time greats and no way would his racist, nationalist nuthuggers on here be defending and supporting him.

He'd be mocked and ridiculed for his constant ducking, his glass jaw and his use of PEDs.

He's an utter fraud. The only reason Americans defend him is because for some reason ducking opponents, cheating and getting knocked out is living the American dream.

I do enjoy how Roy gets a pass for a bunch of "circumstances" that boil down to him being protected, and then being too c0cky to fight anybody. It clearly takes some serious mental gymnastics to justify his career path. I think that if you applied the same willingness to allow for "circumstances," you could justify just about anything that ever happened with any fighter.

And these are the folks that reverse all their logic and apply it to the careers of DM and Calzaghe  I could justify everything Ottke ever did if I had some sort of unreasonable attachment to him like a Royboy.

GTFOH with your pityfull reasoning... I'm British and followed and was lucky enough to see ( LIVE ) our great SMW in Benn Watson Eubank and Collins. I am not going to point the finger but our boys did as much avoiding of BHOP and Jones Jnr as they did themselves. Calazaghe took advantage of NON prime Jones and Hopkins IMO but that does not detract from Joe's amazing record IMO

My main point is this (and it goes back to circumstances dictating things) - if Roy's career was as good as it should have been, then his accomplishments would speak for themselves and he wouldn't need such lengthy explanations detailing a path that is ultimately less satisfying than it ought have been.

Out of curiosity, which fights of his between 1998 and March 2003 were you excited about when they were announced?

If Roy is the champ the A side of the fight. Why would he go fight Darius in front of his home fans, Mess with his internal clock with a seven hour time advance. I guess Darius wanted A side money as well.

And sure Roy clowned most of the fighters with that right hand lead and the bolo punches he was that much better than most of his competitors. Until tarver.

As brutal as boxing is its still show business, mostly show at the top level because a fighter can dictacte who and when he fights. Roy had to fight 50 fights to get to that top level. Hell if he don't want to fight bone crusher and the Grave digger that's his choice.

    deltrotter,

    Hi mate,

I couldn't believe that Steve Collins broke Eubank down mentally.

Eubank has always seemed so strong willed, that I never thought it'd have been possible.

Steve deserves a lot of credit for that.

    Seriously, what's wrong with you?

You have done your best to bash his career and his achievements, but you have failed miserably.

You can't even answer my last few posts.

I've told you that your opinions can't outweigh the links and videos that I've posted.

You have been shown actual PROOF, supported by his biggest critics over the years, that some fighters would not fight him.

Your opinions will never outweigh actual facts.

You've tied yourself up in all sorts of knots on this thread.

Let's take Frankie Liles as a quick example.

You've criticised Roy for not legitimately unifying a division.

You've criticised him for not fighting Nunn and Roch.

Yet Frankie Liles was better than Roch and a faded Nunn. He beat a better version of Nunn, in 1994.

He'd had very good wins on his resume, and in 96, he was the WBA, SMW champ.

Now I've shown you two links that prove that he turned down the opportunity to fight Roy.

    Yet what was your response?

You put a  next to his name.

So you'll bash Roy for not unifying, and for apparently ducking lesser guys, but when I show you proof that he couldn't unify against a better fighter, all I get is a

Roy was only protected in the first four years of his career. That's not my opinion, it's a fact. I've got the proof.

Yes, just like in general everyday life, everyone has a different set of circumstances surrounding them.

I understand your point of view.

    I agree with you.

Roy's career should have been better than it was.

His resume should have been stronger.

Lots of people weren't/aren't satisfied with his career.

    Which is perfectly understandable.

But all I'm doing here, is informing people that certain circumstances prevented a lot of fights from being made, and it wasn't due to Roy ducking and dodging, and taking the easy road.

    That is a common misconception.

Again, a lot of people don't know the facts that I do, and they have no knowledge of what happens behind the scenes, when big fights are trying to get made.

To answer your question, all of them. Because I knew I was watching an extraordinary fighter, who wouldn't be around forever.

Your passing blatant slander as a report?:-:)-(

It's pretty obvious also that the "pro Roch" version is the truth seeing as how he originally took the wbc to court to force them to force Jones to fight him.

Took another court case out against Murad Muhammad which is why the fight got made.

Cancelling a fight because he did not show is garbage. Jones did not cancel the Reggie Johnson fight and he also skipped the press conference.
