I understand to a point that David Haye was going to receive some abuse for what I feel is only hyping the fight with Audley Harrison. People will also note he has done a very good job in hyping a possible fight with the The Klitschko's. So much so when one of those fights eventually happen it will be truly huge. Back to Haye/Harrison, both camps have done an absolute excellent job in hyping in what I think is a one sided mismatch. Both fighters are earning a lot of money. And Joe Public truly believe they are now going to see a big fight when in reality boxing fans know the score. I wonder what the critics of David Haye are going to do when he does what he normally does and that is prove people wrong with his actions in the ring.
He done a really good job of hyping a possible Klitschko fight, which means jack **** if he is not actually willing to fight either of them. Prove who wrong? His critics dislike his actions regarding his ducking of the Klitschkos, how is beating Audley Harrison going to prove them wrong?:think Unless the critics you are refering to are the misguided few who think Audley has a chance.
Right or wrong the words of David Haye concerning Audley Harrison and The Klitschko's has got people talking on the various forums as such whether he is popular or not, David Haye in my opinion has got the job well done in that people are paying for tickets and people will pay for the PPV in their thousands. With regards ducking The Klitschko's there is another job of hyping the fight very well done. Fighting the brothers was always going to be Haye's last couple of fights before he goes on to his acting career anyhow, when the fights actually happen they will be worth millions upon millions of pounds to both camps. David Haye will be laughing his nuts off at all the talk of him ducking the Klitschko's as he will know it will put another zero on the end of his fight purse figure when the fights are actually made as people are that desperate to see the fights happen. The hype and all the bad mouthing surrounding Haye/Harrison is a completely deliberate ploy to sell an otherwise completely dull fight which wont go beyond 2 or 3 rounds. The talk and bad mouthing of the Klitschko brothers is another deliberate ploy and will make everyone involved very rich when things eventually happened. The thing is whether you are a casual fan or a nutter over boxing we have all been suckered into it.
thats not actually what you are saying in your OP. You are implying that Haye is going to prove his critics wrong in the ring, i.e. against Audley. beating audley, even by devestating knockout in the first couple of rounds will prove nothing
Exactly, Haye needs to prove he can do what Michael Sprott did (a fringe european level fighter)? Brutally destroy a British professional title level fighter within 3 rounds. Doing this does not prove he is a genuine HW champion. Winning a paper belt by running away from a giant freakshow for 12 rounds did not prove that. Neither did beating a shot Monte Barrett or beating a shot Ruiz. So far, Haye has to prove himself, and fighting someone by his own admission he beat up in sparring years ago proves nothing. If you are going to trash talk the best, you need to back it up in the ring, not ***** out of the fight 3 times.
Rankings aside, the Klitschko's need really big name opponents to earn really huge money. Most opponents have very little chance of beating them. If everyone avoided them and did not take up the poor fight options or purses, then they would have to offer bigger money on better terms. Haye versus Harrison is a big fight and Harrison has a good chance, perhaps more than one good chance. I think he may be actually better than we expect, he surely must up his game here. I'm not a big fan of Haye, I think he is exciting and good for the sport, he is vulnerable and he has been managed really exceptionally. He has the titles to back it up and he has delivered on his word. But losing to Carl Thompson being knocked down a few times means that there must be huge doubts when he fights someone who comes to win and can dig and take a good shot. To me, Mormeck, Enzo Mac, Monte Barrett, Valuev, Ruiz etc are not top tier by any stretch of the imagination. The Heavyweight top 10 contains many fighters better than this who would handle Haye. Perhaps I'm mistaken here, but until he comes through a real war against a dangerous opponent then the jury is out, regardless of the titles.
Very good post and I have to agree with the vast majority of it, especially about the management side of things. Its been stated in various places Adam Booth is rather unpleasant to deal with sometimes but he always gets the very best money for his fighter. With regards criticisms of Haye, to a point I think they are unfair, I base this on most of use thinking he was very chinny after the likes of the Lolenga Mock fight and the Carl Thompson defeat. But since then he as captured the Undisputed Cruiserweight Championship Of The World and crushed Enzo Maccarinelli and then went onto to win the WBA Heavyweight Championship Of The World - not bad for someone who has so many critics.
