[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDJFgKP5fhQ[/ame] Did some light sparring in the gym yesterday I was trying to counter a lot but tell me what you guys think/things i need to improve on. thanks alot
Pretty good only watched the first in which neither of you took a single step to your right or attempted to close down your opponent. Still good though
I'm the white guy with white gloves...but yeah we were taking it pretty easy...it starts picking up a bit in the 2nd
I think you need more head-movement or feints to open up the distance. Think about it, to encroach into a range where someone can hit you, you dont want to edge foward and not be moving your upperbody, otherwise you will get hit instead of getting closer to land, so you wanna open that distance up with some upperbodymovement as he you edge closer, then you will of potentially created an angle to spear that double jab in. Feints can be just as effective cause they can offset the guys timing before you decide to get off, meaning he wont find it as easy to counter you because you will have, in theory, of broken his rhythm up with the head/shoulder feints. Another thing......Dont fight with your shoulders so squared up. It will torque your body in an unnatural position, particularly if your feet are side on, but your shoulders are square on. You will also be losing all that power that is generated on the right hand when it comes all the way across your body and your able to get your hip into the punch. By fighting more square your not only losing power on the right hand, but your presenting a bigger target area to hit. Your giving them both sides of your body and making it easier for them to jam the uppercut up the middle. If your more side on you will have more power on the right hand, you'll be presenting less of a target area for the body-shots and the uppercut, and the opponent wont be able to see the right hand coming when your hiding it from him on that side, plus, you can roll the shoulder a lot easier when your to the side as appose to being too square. Also be aware that when you shell up this guy keeps stepped over to your right so he can dig his left hook into your belly. He wants your hands to go up so you blind yourself then he can slide his right leg out, get off the shoulder, and start digging his hook into your body.
Okay I'm gonna work on cutting my body over so my right shoulder is back more..I also need to generally just throw more punches...thanks
thumbsup Just remember you dont wan you shoulders to be square. Try not to show the opponent your right elbow.
You seam to head-hunt a bit; try feinting and weaving on your way in like others have said, and throw to the body. The more spots you show you're capable of hitting, the more wary they'll be of your punches. Practicing more combinations would make it more natural for you to follow up on an opening, like you try to do numerous times behind your jab (and watch out sticking your chin out when you throw, particularly the right hand). You both seem to have good fundamentals. Try not to be so stiff; a good thing I was taught early on was when keeping my hands up, it's good to relax your shoulders and not tense them up, as it's not necessary to keep the guard up in front of your face. It seems you may not be short enough to be an all-out in-fighter, but pressure tactics seem like they would benefit you; try cutting the ring off more often with subtle movements to either side while advancing, instead of just following him around. Hope I could help.
