no, dumba88, you're missing the point. i'm talking about corrales' height and reach, his speed, quickness and explosiveness. his exceptional counter punching and concussive one-punch power. now look at duran. duran damn near got ko'd with a counter shot from dejesus. duran is open for counters all day long...dejesus nailed him again and again with flush counters to the head... duran comes forward and he can't nandle a little lateral movement ...he throws punches with abandon, leaving himself open for a guy like corrales.

duran never faced anybody even close to corrales...none of the guys he faced even begin to compare.

corrales would damn near decapitate duran. it would be hearns-cuevas all over again...or hearns-duran. except corrales could take a helluva shot.

Um, yeah I am because all my points in the Jones thread were correct.

I don't have to rewrite history to point out that Jones didn't fight the other top guys in his divisions.

This guy is trying to make it sound like Duran didn't actually fight the fights he fought, beat the fighters he beat, avenge his loss to De jesus by KO twice, beat SRL at his best, go neck and neck with one of the gratest middleweights of all time years and 25lb past his own prime, and beat a guy at SMW who knocked out Hearns. :patsch

    Negatives:

Duran lost to a few fighters well above his ideal weight while he was old and fat.

Duran inexplicably quit against Leonard for no apparent reason.

    Roy Jones Jr
1.) pfp king for almost a decade.
2.) voted the best boxer of the Seoul Olympics
    3) Champion @
    Middleweight
    Super Middleweight
    Light Heavyweight
    Cruiserweight
    Heavyweight
4.) Beat all time great Bernard Hopkins who still operating at a high level, and James Toney who was pfp the best fighter back in 1994.

The only thing laughable is you and your opinion. There is nothing laughable about Jones and his career. There is no way a guy who's career spanned from junior middleweight to heavyweight could be considered laughable unless to some ****ing idiot like you. I can't believe I'm actually discussing boxing with you. Do me a favor and **** off.

Yes, when assessing Duran, remember that he spent years fighting over his natural weight against bigger guys. Yes, some of that was lazy training on his part, but still he remained competitive against the best around for a long, long time. I probably wouldn't put him in my own top 10....but laugh at his career? Come on.

Hagler said in reference to Duran's eyes "two black charcoals looking on you" after 10 rounds the fight was even. Just a blasphemy to ignore one of the most combative fighter ever.

All that nonsense just to say what I've been saying all along?

Jones beat Toney and Hopkins. If he beat anyone else worth mentioning I bet you'd have pointed it out. Olympics, titles, p4p, weight classes, none of that matters. He beat exactly two good fighters.

(And Jones was never a champ at Cruiser btw.)

this is such bullschit!...what did duran do to you guys to make y'all rub up all over his grill like this?

dude there are MANY, MANY fighters who moved up in weight...duran is FAR from the only one. since henry armstrong owned three titles in three weight classes fighters have been moving up from one weight class to the next. dlh started as a lw. ssm the same..fmj started as a sfw....rjj fought from jmw to hw...srr from lw to lhw. that is one of hte most common things to find is fighters outgrowing one weight class and moving up to the next. but y'all act like duran was so unique and so brave to move up in weight...and he wasn't fighting naturally bigger guys if he could no longer make lw...the only naturally bigger guys he faced were hagler and barkley. there was no significant difference betwee him and leonard and benitez and hearns...but fmj for example, fights naturally bigger guys ALL THE TIME and gets NO CREDIT for it...NONE! in fact, floyd will beat a champ who outweighs him by 30 lbs and FLOYD will get criticized for "cherry picking." how come nobody called moore and barkley cherry picks?

get off duran's jock...he should be judged by the SAME EXACT STANDARDS AS EVERYBODY ELSE!... he moved up in weight and FAILED....srl, srr, rjj, ssm, dlh, moved up in weight too. some of them succeeded, some failed. but duran was certainly no better than ANY of them, so he should NEVER be ranked above them.
