Burns wouldn't beat any of the existing world champions and quite frankly doesn't deserve a shot. Has been soundly beaten twice in a row and has shown he is not good enough to cut it on the world stage.
Money. If he jumps straight into a title shot and loses then what's next? I feel he has one more crack (not neccesarily the one fight) at a world title therefore I'd take my time with it, especially as there is money to be made along the way. Maximise revenue on the way.
And I still stand by what I said Ricky needs to be fighting for a world title in June no doubt about it, at present only Kevin gives him a proper fight and hopefully hes getting a shot at Vasquez which will be a very hard fight to win
Put it this way Jon, if Ricky fights Abril or Figeroula your defo going to get a full house in the hydro, if it were Anthony or John I cant see that being the same with no title at stake, irrespective Rickys been a champion 3 1/2 years and between them all his the most deserving of a title shot
Ofcourse he is the most deserving I wouldn't disagree with that in a second. However as said I think it wouldn't be a bad thing for Ricky to take an easy fight before he challenges again, certainly not taking an easy fight and watching Crolla skip by him to get a shot for example. Anyway, just watched the press conference today and Eddie has confirmed the winner he is happy to face Ricky.
You're confusing me Jon. Or did you not read my post right? I explained to you in my post that Ricky should get an imediate title shot. And If he happened to lose that then he should maybe think about dropping down for a domestic fight with Crolla-Murray or Mitchell, but Ricky is too good for them just now. Burns should get a title shot. Anyway Billy explained to you whats best for Ricky and I happen to agree with him.
Billy explained he was the most deserving, thats it. And he is. And did you read my post? Eddie confirmed the winner of Crolla/Murray will face Burns so there goes your title shot. Seems Eddie doesn't agree with you either. Ricky will get another title shot, I just happened to think it wouldnt be right away, now seems I was correct.
Now, Now Jon don't get you're knickers in a twist were only debating here whats best for Ricky. If the winner of Crolla-Murray is fighting Burns then so be it, but that suits them more than Ricky. I think Ricky should be fighting for a title next and i'm not the only one. Hearn would rather Ricky face Crolla-Murray because it's cheaper than getting his cheque book out to bring over a champion to Glasgow. But as Billy said Ricky fighting at domestic level he may struggle to fill out the arena. Seems like Ricky's loss was very convenient to a lot of people.
Again I know where you are coming from. Personally would I like to go to a full Hydro/SECC for a title shot over a domestic 3/4 full show? Ofcourse, it's a no brainer (I'd go to either though but granted a few won't). And Ricky IMO is still the best LW in the UK by a distance. I just think he will get his shot again after this next fight, and it may suit him to ease off and relax for a bit. Maybe it won't though its just my opinion. I don't think anyone else deserves a shot before him though. Albeit looks like Mitchell may get a pop at Vasquez.
I gotta be honest I dont think Burns will ever win a world title again, but he shouldnt be fighting any lower than World/European level..
I think Crolla is a Super Featherweight holding his own at lightweight. Honestly believe he should drop down. John Murray is a big guy and he will push Crolla back and beat him imo. It took Brandon Rios ( who was probably as big as welter on fight night) 11 rounds to get him out if there and Crolla has got no chance of doing anything similar. Not having a go at Crolla but I was shocked to see everyone at ringside picking Anthony to win that one on fight night. In my opinion Murray is also more proven, with the exception of the Rees fight for Crolla, which was a bit dodgy.
